Brandon Marshall remains confident that his opportunity to contribute will eventually materialize.

The veteran receiver knows that he has a lot of catching up to do, but he feels he’s digesting things and is feeling comfortable in the offense. At the same time, he says there is a lot to process before getting on the field.

“You gotta learn everything,” Marshall said. “Coach does a great job of putting guys in position to be successful what I do might be different than other receivers. So, yeah, you have to know everything, but at the same time you have your role.”

Marshall signed with the Saints on Nov. 12 and has been inactive the last three games. New Orleans plays Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Coach Sean Payton called Marshall a quick study earlier this week, and Drew Brees echoed that praise after Wednesday’s practice. However, the quarterback also noted the team is crowded at wide receiver with Michael Thomas, Keith Kirkwood and Tre’Quan Smith all playing well.

Marshall pointed out how detailed everything is within this offense, but said that the things the Saints do are very similar to the offense Marc Trestman ran in Chicago from 2013-2014. The wide receiver could not say how long it would take to get everything down.

“It’s different for every guy,” Marshall said. “The hard part is being at the end of the season, right? It’s different for each guy, but I’m confident that with the work that I’m doing that eventually I will contribute.”

If I was a cartoonist, I'd draw Lil' Brandon handing in his homework to the teacher with the door open to see the other kids getting their diplomas...

He'll be ready when their handing out Superbowl Rings - I'd rather we'd kept Michael Floyd and ran him after practice till he was in shape...

Cut him and activate Ginn from IR.

Tommylee Lewis got the designation...We should've cut Ginn with a wink, wink and re-signed him post-physical therapy...

What's really revealing about this - maybe it was Marshall not Cutler responsible for many of those INTs???

I think we have one more designation to return available and Ginn is eligible after this week I think.

Each team gets two designations now. The rules were changed prior to last season. They also don't have to designate which players they want to use the "return" on until it is time to activate. Originally the single player had to be designated at the time they were placed on IR.

I was at the Cow game up here in Deathstar last Thursday.

All I know is that a big, strong guy like Marshall could have really helped out those undrafted guys vs Dallas. Jones (#31) was grab happy the entire game on MT.

Use his skill set in similar fashion as we did with Colston on 3rd downs.

Teams are going to exploit our lack of variety in the passing game:
Thomas with 90 catches followed by Smith at 22. No one else (WR) over 12. Need to line AK up in the slot more to take attention away from Thomas

At first I was kind of excited to see how Marshall would do in this offense. Now I'm just annoyed. It's been damn near a month. I'm starting to wonder if he's going to contribute at all.

Re: When will Brandon Marshall contribute for Saints? Veteran WR confident time is coming

He's veteran depth and nothing more. He was a fall back plan B to the Bryant signing. I think they expected Bryant to contribute but Marshall is more of a "will suit up if others can't go" player. He has no upside, no separation speed, suspect hands and frankly isn't a better option than the young guys. He's here just in case we lose more players at WR and hopefully he's up to speed enough not to run the wrong route altogether and cost us turnovers. I'll be surprised if he contributes at all. Would have liked to see us bring Benjamin in for a work out before KC nabbed him up.

He will be activated in the playoffs if someone goes down. Insurance.

Would be nice to have someone else for Drew to through a TD to and not hAve to share a record with that Ryan jackass

It’s all a coy ploy for the playoffs I believe , Brees is not looking no one else but Thomas Payton fooling teams thinking we’re 1 dememsional then boom we unleash the beast jmo

Just don't see a 34yo WR who's had a history of difficulty learning offenses and making correct reads fitting into this team at this junction of the season...

Tough luck Dez Bryant got injured.

He could have been a solid #2 WR in this offense. Or least a guy to keep the chains moving on crucial 3rd down. Outside of Thomas, not a lot of experience at WR. I won't be surprised if Brandon is waived soon.

Yeah, also read a tweet from Nick Underhill at the New Orleans Advocate who confirmed what AG was correct about as well...

Hadn't realized we get two back now (might as well not have a limit, imo)...

I agree totally. The greater ability to rehab injuries and the tighter constraints over the designations makes the old rules obsolete. The IR rules were put in place to avoid "hiding" players for return the same season. That is much harder to get away with in today's atmosphere.

But now it begs the question... Ted Ginn or Josh LeRibeus?

Tre'Quan Smith was drafted to be the future, replacement for Ginn...

Now, is he injured and it's limiting his ability at the present, or...

Tre'Quan is gonna need more time to aclimate, adjust to the offense?

If it's injury, then you roll with Smith, let him regain his health and bring back O-Line depth...

Tre needs to tighten up the chin strap. Last two games, he's had opportunities to SCORE (dropped pass on 5 yd line vs Dallas) & move the chains (flea flicker vs Tampa) on crucial drives. That's how you lose trust from #9 in crucial moments.

Gotta get it together TS.

Bring back LeRibeus. Our line needs as much depth as it can get going forward.

Now that Mr. Ola is injured, there is a good chance they bring back LeReibus.

Saints have a ton of WR's on tap. That O line depth is a bit shaky for me.

At this point (one month since signed BM) it's more likely "Take some" Hill has a better chance of catching a pass at WR than Marshall.

I hope I'm wrong though. We really need a #2 since Ginn is still out.

Agreed. Plus I think that if Marshall was going to make any real impact, he'd have been playing by now. He may suit up in the coming weeks, but I have zero faith he'll have any sort of impact. Hope I'm wrong!

The o was clicking last season late with ginn I were hoping he could get pressure of Thomas if could return but with online sporadic play we could use some fresh legs

Let's make the new rule happen, SP, now that you're on the committee!

Personally, I like the idea of lower limits on the ceiling roster - don't like this stashing of players - show you know what you're doing and pick the right guys...

Also allows good players to seek, get opportunities elsewhere because a coach/personnel man lacks the vision, conviction to put players in a position to succeed...
