In no way does this mean teams won’t be searching him out in free agency come March. After all, New Orleans exhausted a valuable third-round pick to land Bridgewater from the Jets this past summer. There’s certainly some logic behind teams projecting into the future when it comes to the former first-round pick and Louisville standout. In an NFL that has seen high-paid quarterbacks struggle to lead their teams to relevance this season, it would not be a shock if Bridgewater earned mid-tier starting quarterback money. Add in inflation, and that would be between $15-$20 million annually. Teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins come to mind first. Michael Thomas, wide receiver, New Orleans Saints Historically speaking, Thomas has had one of the best three-year stretches for a wide receiver to start his career in league history. He enters Week 15 having put up 102 receptions for 1,218 yards and eight touchdowns. The kid has also caught a ridiculous 86.4 percent of the passes thrown in his direction. Jerry Rice never caught higher than 74 percent of his targets in a single season. At just 25 years old, Thomas likely has two more long-term contracts in his future. That’s going to start this coming offseason on a deal that will far surpass the five-year, $90 million extension Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Giants. Yeah.... ridiculous though just how large the salary cap and salaries have gotten just since Brees joined the team. Remember Brees' first contract with the Saints, about $60 million if my recollection is close to accurate?
It's really getting out of hand for the common fan. Can’t wait to see how all the owners react when the cap trajectory starts pointing downward. With that type of money, you’d think players would want to sing the National Anthem, while standing, wrapped in an American flag. |

I disagree.
Money wouldn't stop me from standing (or kneeling) for what I believe in most. Besides, we've seen that a player's actions can and do impact earning potential. Teams can waive players without honoring contracts. Players can hold out without honoring contracts. The NFL is about two things - winning and money. It's less about about safety or getting calls right and more about sponsors and money - for the league and it's owners. Players make a fraction of that pie. Should they be thankful to millions to play football? Yes and I'm sure they are. But the reality is that there's a real and sometimes fatal risk for a potential reward. |

I'm all for players making as much as they can as long as they play well and conduct themselves as a lawful citizen.
I want my team to win, to win fairly and be leaders in their communities. That should be the trade off for compensation. I believe teams who employ players who break the law should also be penalized. Ex; Cincinnati should lose draft picks for burfict's conduct. |

We will lose Teddy and get a comp pick back. Basically we rented a solid backup and pushed our 3rd round pick to the next season.
Thomas might be our first franchised player since Brees |
