Offense
Yes, our offense has really played poorly over the past 4 games and if it keeps up we will no doubt be 1 and done in the playoffs. That being said I’m not too worried. Take away that weird Dallas game We have had a string of division games against opponents who know our offense well and ALWAYS play us tough. Our offensive line was playing lights out earlier in the season. We were putting up 40 plus points regularly with the same WRs we have now. When Armstead went down their was a huge drop off. He was the one that held the line together enough to give Brees the time he needed in the pocket to allow receivers to get open. He was masking the deficiencies. Since he went down others have been nicked up and things just haven’t been the same. Pressure Brees and he’s average out of the pocket. We beat the Steelers we can rest our starters against Carolina and give the linemen a little more time to get healthy. If our line gets back to form we will be hard to beat.
I think Payton is just holding out Armstead for the playoffs at this point anyway. If a loss yesterday would have caused detrimental harm to our playoff path I’m betting Armstead would have played last night. Bottom line is I’m not too worried about the offense. I do want to see how they do against the Steelers but you can only take so much away from division games when it comes to assessment. |
Re: Offense
3 recent road games (2 in the division) in hostile environments.
Here is a stat for you ... Ingram -- > 5.3 ypc Kamara --- > 4.8 ypc This is with a depleted O LINE. You can't argue with production. Not sure why SP isn't letting his horses run more. It takes heat off the passing attack or lack thereof. The Saints will play better AT HOME. |

Re: Offense
Need Armstead back...healthy...and the o line will look a lot better. Especially on the outside and off tackle runs

Re: Offense
We will be different at home.

Re: Offense
Drive killing penalties where the story last night. Offense will be fine, just don’t call anymore 3rd and long inside pitches to Taysom anymore. Keep TLL of field and we should be fine. By the way, has he (TLL) been released yet.

The Taysom thing is not going to work every time, but agree, that was not a good play call vs a defense with Davis and Kuechly |
Re: Offense
I noticed some mental errors from some players who don't get a lot of playing time. Drew was addressing them.
I think Kamara maybe a little tired its been a long season. He carried this team first 4 games as you recall. I think he should be the first to sit if we were to rest anyone. Plus we are a dome team playing on the road and we have played some good defenses I don't take anything away from them... The next season is about to begin... |
Re: Offense
We really need someone that can stretch the field and take the pressure off of Michael Thomas. Defenses are blanketing him. With how this offense is built, we are a rather lateral offense. We need either a speed receiver that can stretch coverages and get these teams to not commit as hard to what they are doing... or a TE that can lock coverages. I think Ginn returning is going to give us a huge boost... we really need him.

Saints definitely need deep speed in the worst way. I hope TG Jr is on his way back. |
Re: Offense
I hope the O wakes up at home and the D just keeps playing well.

Re: Offense
This may be a little bit of putting on the black and gold glasses.... but the way I see it, this year we are 6-2 in close games that were decided by 10 points or less. And we always win the blowouts. So this defense of ours can clearly help us out, and help win those close games, even if the offense isn't exactly humming. Either we are super insanely lucky, or else it's proven itself true enough so far this year, that I'm inclined to believe it. 6-2 in close games is not bad. It's certainly better than blind luck. That wasn't always the case in the past. We usually always had EITHER the high flying offense, OR the raging hard-nosed defense...the only time we sorta ever had both clicking at the same time was in, you guessed it, 2009, and this year on some of these really fantastic blowouts. Obviously I want the offense back to normal but like I said, so far we are 6-2 in close games, that's pretty good.

Re: Offense
Circle back to 2009 Saints team. Didn't they go 13-0 before losing 3 straight? I think this 2018 Saints team is even better .. specifically that def front 7. We still have Sean Payton, Brees & a great cast a dawgs. We're not playing outside the rest of the year either. The path to Atl is there ...
Dome sweet dome. |

Win Sunday and we can rest whoever we want for 3 weeks. |
Re: Offense
I think we're seeing a tired Saints team. That stretch of 3 games in 12 days (think about that) took it's toll. We need to get that 1st round bye so we can rest up.

Re: Offense
Offensive Line is the issue. Guys are playing hurt. Play the backups till the playoffs and we'll be fine.
