Cam May Be Benched

"Panthers head coach Ron Rivera hasn't ruled out shutting down Newton for the season. The team should do what's best for Newton's long-term health and that could be ending his season on Injured Reserve."

He's been on a snap count for weeks. His shoulder is not getting better. Backup is Taylor Heinicke.

I think Cam is done for the season. We have been torched by backups before and it's fairly common storyline this season around the NFL. Backup catches fire for a couple of games. Have to handle the Steelers but if we don't, we'll likely be facing a greasy stick of dynamite.

Re: Cam May Be Benched

If he was truly injured all along and Coach RR played him anyway, that speaks volumes on how that organization is run. Cam's career may be shortened as a result.

The only thing ruining Cam's career is Cam.

Did you see him jawing instead of calling a timeout? He's turning into Jaemis Winston

We did the same thing with Brooks. Almost identical situation where early, win a bunch of games and then the QB is hurt. Coach refuses to bench them and let them heal. Meanwhile the losses start piling up.

We had Delhomme sitting on the bench the whole time. Could have got us in the playoffs. All we needed was a couple of games. Brooks was hurt bad, probably worse than Cam. Nope. Would not bench Brooks.

"What If" Delhomme had been allowed to play and get us into the playoffs? No Payton, No Brees possibly no Lombardi to torment Atlanta with........

And what if Delhomme won us two SB's? I get what you are saying but end of the day Brooks should have been benched. Think we were 8-0. You could tell he was not healthy, all his throws were garbage. Cam should have been benched weeks ago. He could have healed up in time to make a run.

From what I read, the injury may require more than rehab. If he needs surgery his season would have been over because you're looking at extensive rehab. That said, if extensive surgery was/is required, I would have shut him down and had the procedure done ASAP in order to get him back in shape for next year.

It’s so glaringly obvious he’s hurt. He always missed throws, but never this bad. They need to shut him down and let that shoulder heal.

Here's my problem...
NFL wanting to protect the players. Well if you have a player you know is hurt and perhaps in need of surgery you shouldn't let him in the game. Simple as that.
To top it off they have nothing to play for now so let him go get better and be ready for next year... idiots

Re: Cam May Be Benched

Obviously it's n injury he can play through, but not 100%. Rez is right that you can see it on his throws. Monday was their chance at the playoffs, and the loss means they are now the longest of long shots.
Made sense to try for the PO, and now it makes sense to shut it down.

Re: Cam May Be Benched

He’s got some kind of legitimate clinical personality disorder. Dude is truly not right. I heard his press conference and he just talked in circles the whole time. Pointed fingers, made excuses etc. he couldn’t even tell them what was wrong with his arm or even describe how it hurt. Apparently he hasn’t been given a diagnosis. You cannot convince me that doctors in the NFL can’t figure it out. He said the team Drs were giving him placebos.
It’s all psychosomatic.
The best game plan to beat Carolina is to hit Cam and get in his head. His career may be over.

I'm so glad we don't have an ego-jerk like him leading our team and I hope we never do.
That will probably be the day I just quit the NFL completely.

Panthers parking Cam Newton

Wonder if the NFLPA had something to do with this...

Will they now sign Kap?

Here is his backup who will play against us.

Assuming they will each get a broom? Maybe a dust pan to Cam this time.

And hopefully he will be playing our backup because we already have the #1 seed clinched.

And say what you want, but, Cam is their franchise, to let him play hurt is just insane.

Re: Cam May Be Benched

I just thank God for Bum Phillips and you should, too.
(He drafted Rickey Jackson, for one)
He developed defenses and tactics still in use today, by his son,
one of the most respected defensive minds in Football, Wade.
Wade coached the mighty Broncos D a couple years ago, when they
played Carolina in the Super Bowl. Payton Manning was a shadow
of himself. Wade Phillips Bronco Defense completely shut down
Cam Newton and the Carolina Offense.
If not for Wade, using the D schemes and tactics he learned from his
father, O.A. "Bum," the Panthers might have won, and Cam Newton
would still be dancing obnoxiously today.
Thank God for Bum.
