Cam Meredith is hoping that 2019 is his year.

The Saints wide receiver attempted to come back from a knee injury that wiped out his 2017 season in Chicago, but he never fully recovered from it and landed back on the shelf after appearing in six games this season.

It has been a frustrating ride, but Meredith says he hopes to be ready for next season after having an arthroscopic surgery in November.

“Honestly, I could have tried to play through it, but it comes down to a long-term decision,” Meredith said. “It was just the smartest decision to just go in there and get it done. Now that it is done it feels a lot better.”

Meredith said it was hard to tell if he ever felt right. He said other parts of his body started to compensate for the knee injury, and then he rolled his ankle in training camp and then his knee started swelling.

The knee injury was minor. He said it wasn’t the same injury to his knee, but it felt like a “Groundhog Day situation.”

Meredith has stayed around the team while he continues to rehab his injury. He said he is looking forward to next offseason and getting back on the field.

With nine receptions on ten targets Meredith was showing promise of being a dependable pair of hands in the Saints offense. There have been far too many drops this season by several Saints players and yet Drew Brees still shattered his own completion percentage record.

You have to hope for the best but feels like we've seen this rerun before with Byrd and Spiller

Yes indeed.

For every Okafor that actually does come back from injury, there seem to be way more Byrds and Merediths. Is there any way to improve on the kinds of decisions that bring in these kinds of players?

You lost your bet. Just own it. I told you from training camp it was not going to work out. He had a good year in Chicago but the team sucked and it was all garbage time. I know because I watched all his games. He sucks, injury or no injury. He was still dropping balls for no good reason on the field. All he had to do was catch it.

I am with you. I think in all honesty it really is kind of getting lucky to some point. The coaches, the medical staff, etc are all doing their due diligence but probably never know with certainty how the injury wil respond once you're making athletic moves like these guys make.

That said I would like to suggest one method I think could pay dividends.

Best of three Rochambeau. It's science. 80% of the time it works 100% of the time.

Well... we DID win BIG with Brees, didn't we? :bng:

What part of "nine receptions on ten targets" do you not comprehend? 90% catch ratio is not "dropping balls for no good reason on the field".

And, yes, I lost my bet because he was injured, not because he couldn't produce when healthy. We are all very well aware of the fact that you have some ill-conceived notion that Meredith is a "garbage time" player. You have made that perfectly clear.

:D

My bet with The Dude was based upon how many games Meredith would play/start. I was basing it all upon his health. I lost the bet and paid up. I'll bet you if you ask The Dude he'd even admit, when healthy, that Meredith isn't a garbage player.

And Meredith produced while on the field, unlike the others mentioned. I wish we had him now. At least you can depend upon him catching the ball when open, unlike what we have been seeing lately with some of our other WR's.

All I know is every attempt we made this past offseason and in season to upgrade the WR position and create depth has failed for us. We sure could use a healthy Meredith or Bryant right now.

He was not injured. He was healthy and on the field and still dropping balls so the injury reason is debunked. The drops had nothing to do with his knees either. Right in his hands. He dropped several balls. No reason for it other than not good enough.

Vilma had previous knee injuries but the Jets didn't want him as they thought he couldn't play in a 3-4 defense. Which made it a great signing for us.

What are you talking about; healthy, on the field and dropping balls?

They threw him the ball 10 times and he caught 9 of them. Doesn't seem like he dropped too many.

Meridith would have about as much impact now as he did then which isn’t much at all. Kirkwood is doing better than he could. He would just be inactive.

What games were you watching? Meredith had TEN passes thrown to him in 2018. He caught NINE of them. The only target he didn't catch was NOT A DROP. This is while he was playing hurt.

Sorry, Beast, but you don't appear to know what you are talking about.

I just checked on Cameron Meredith's drops in 2016 with the Bears. He had TWO dropped passes in 97 targets and finished the year ranked 144th in the league in drops.

Coming off of the injury that Cam M had I think he'll get his opportunity in training camp next season. What he does with it will play itself out.

The way things happened this season leads me to believe that he wasn't as healthy as he could have been. Sometimes players need a couple of seasons to get past the type of injury (tore ligaments in his ACL & MCL) that he had. I just don't understand why there is a need to dump on the guy.

Case in point --- > Teddy Bridgewater.

CM becoming a solid number 2 would do nothing but help us so I am all for it. Just like being wrong about Rankins has done nothing but help us and I was glad to be wrong. Hope it works out. If it does then it does nothing but help us. If not it sucks, but it SP will release him
