So are you saying it's over? And we should start Teddy or Taysom over Brees?

Drew is quite mobile. He doesn't just sit back in the pocket.
He doesn't run as much as some others, but there's a reason he'll still be playing into his 40's.

Also, very few running QB's have won a Superbowl.
Russell Wilson and who else? Maybe Rodgers?

Re: If you haven’t noticed

That's how you get your QB hurt. They run cuz they have to. When you throw w 76% accuracy and are sacked only 20 times all year long, you don't have to run. That's what Ingram and Kamara are for.

Dak and Russell Wilson may have run yesterday, but when the Seahawks won the SB, he was more effective as a pocket passer. Same goes for Rodgers. I don't think Dak will win a SuperBowl, he's more of a game manager with a good offensive line. The Saints and other teams started picking off the best members of the Seahawks o-line, and yes Russell Wilson now has to run. Cowboys o-line is not as good as it was 2 years ago and Dak runs.

If your QB has to mostly scramble or is in a constantly moving/rolling pocket, you're not going to win a SuperBowl.

Steve Young? He was quite a proficient passer by the 1994 season though.

Exactly, Brees is nimble enough and even has a rare spin move; thought hesistant, he can run...

And Rodgers really isn't so much a runner, but an incredibly nimble scrambler, but has enough to pick up a first down when defenses sell out deep...

Brees' protection is set up like a castle wall with embrasures to sling his pass through, that's why there's an emphasis on the guards...

Running Quarterbacks sell jerseys, quick-read pocket passers with defenses win Championships...

Hi Danno. been too long since I've been here. Good to see your posting.

This didnt take long, and nails it.
Running QB's are great, if you're playing Vanderbilt, in the Energizer Battery Bowl. They'll give you some flash and dash, and make some highlights, in game 3, or the Wild Card Round. They were big heroes in high school or college, but it doesnt play for the duration in the NFL. Case in point. I think you've heard the last of Cam Newton already.

The QB position in the NFL should be a hub for all points on the field, and not just where your feet are. If you do not do this, you may win some games with your feet, but defenses will simply spy you out, eventually, or you'll take a beating and lose a step. You cannot win in the NFL at QB, if you cant read defense, and strike across the field. None of these wishbone guys are going to win the SB.

Its funny you mention Steve Young. His career was shortened by his propensity to run, and the ensuing concussions. Even more interesting, if you look it up on video, you will see his clock being cleaned by Rickey Jackson and Frank Warren.

Brees CAN run but once pressured out of the pocket he’s horrible. Our line stays healthy and it won’t be an issue.

Through the first half in today's game the running Lamar Jackson has looked like crap and is getting shutout by the extremely sedentary Rivers.

Re: If you haven’t noticed

running QB's are not the same as a scrambling QB, IMHO. They are different. AR is more of a scrambler than a runner. He opens or buys time with his feet.

But to answer your question the answer is no. The NFL and people that are in media have been pushing that narrative for YEARSSSSS. It still hasn't come to fruition. QB's are meant to pass.

BTW look at the Ravens right now. Give me an effective passer every day of the week. If he is mobile as well, great. But I want the accurate, effective passer first.

And as someone else above said Drew is mobile and agile. He's not fast in the open field like vick, but he can create room by rolling out.

At this level of football, you have to be able to somewhat stay in the pocket and make plays with your arm. Good D coordinators will figure out "running style" QB's. Jackson needs a lot of work to become a accurate passer.

We may see Flucco before this one is done.

they should have brought him off the bench already. Jackson, IMHO, is not starting material. It was great to ride it while you could but at this point, right now, you bring Joe back in and see what you got with the rest if this team

It may be too late at this point. Jackson has got them too far into a hole.

Yes.

I think this may be too big of a deficit to get out of. Baltimore about to go fishing.

Yeah. 4th quarter and when factoring in sacks he is around 5-13 and 10 yards passing.

We do have a running QB, his name is Taysom Hill.

No I’m not a negative Nellie. Don’t put me there please asking will brees run for 8 yds for all or die drive or toss it for a shot at a incompletion

He'll toss it for a TD.

But if you remember he ran it in for a TD for about that many yards against the Falcons on his spin move.

Brees is smart. He'll assess then decide what to do

There is a huge difference between a running Quarterback and a mobile Quarterback. I would rather have Brees than any of the runners because, although they can be exciting, they have more chance of being injured...
...and he is just much better

If your QB (not named Taysom Hill). Is running that isn't a good thing. Means your WR's are covered like a blanket, means your QB can't throw a big time on the money pass, means there is pressure in your QB's face.

Thanks but no thanks I'll go with Brees any day of the week.

BakoSaint 01-07-2019 11:46 AM

Re: If you haven’t noticed

If the fact that a mobile QB won the matchup of Wilson vs Prescott is proof that all NFL QB's will be mobile in the future, then the winning QB of Saints vs Eagles is likely to prove that all NFL QB's will be graduates of Westlake High School in Austin, TX in the future. Also, if you have to be a mobile QB in the future of the NFL, none of these young QBs who are mobile now will be mobile at 35 and stay healthy, so Drew's records will last forever.

Re: If you haven’t noticed

As long as we give Brees great protection, we don't need a mobile QB.

Just look at the Colts vs Texans. Their OL didn't let JJ or Clowney anywhere near Luck. Luck didn't even need his mobility. He just stayed in a clear pocket and picked apart the Texans. He looked like he was shooting free throws out there. That plus good running with Kamara/Ingram/Hill is our recipe for success.

Re: If you haven’t noticed

Jackson will never be as good as he was this year. He can't read defenses. He's not accurate. He doesn't have a a strong arm. The Chargers figured him out. Others will as well. He will get broke up. Mahomes has elite arm talent. He's smart as well. He is special.

I can't argue with yesterday's performance. That was bad playoff showing for Lamar. No pocket presence & zero awareness. A work in progress.

You are right, all of that running is a recipe for a serious injury.

It’s 4th down will he sprint for 10 yards for a first down to keep a game winning drive alive with 28 secs left or will he try and fit a woodcock in a sack.
