NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints believe that standout defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins tore his Achilles tendon on Sunday, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The news was first reported by the NFL Network after Rankins was carted off the field in the first quarter of New Orleans' 20-14 divisional-round playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Rankins has an MRI scheduled for Monday to confirm the diagnosis, the source said.

Oh geez. They kept saying ankle injury during the telecast. Hoping they are wrong about Achilles but fearing the worst now.

Major loss but the Saints have quality DEPTH on the D line. Saints can still get this done. David O and T Davison are no slouches.

I agree. We have good depth at the moment but I feel horrible for Rankins. That is a real bummer.

Not sure what depth we have there... outside of Onymata Rankins was the only pass rushing DT. He will need some rotation to stay fresh. Pass rush was ineffective against PHI, but perhaps that’s due to losing Rankins and Foles quick release.

I would like to see Davenport play some DT this week on passing downs.. I think that’s the only option for a decent pass rush at the DT position, or perhaps move Cam inside with Davenport at the DE..

Cameron Jordan is on the "inside" almost never. He sets the edge better than anyone on the roster.

Stallworth (played well all season) and T Davison are more than capable. I wouldn't be surprised to see TRex (Hendrickson) active for this upcoming game.

I've watched that d line since camp and David Onyemata is just as effective as Rankins is vs the run. Maybe not on the initial push off, but still effective.

Losing Rankins is tough blow but someone will pick up baton and run with it. 2 more games to win.

It sucks that Rankins is done for the year at this stage, he was our best D lineman not named Cam Jordan. However, we still have a good group and we just need another depth signing. For now, watch Taylor Stallworth wreck this guard.
