Could the Saints wait for Russell Wilson to replace Drew Brees?

Interesting

So that brings us to the prospect of Russell Wilson. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback has thrived in the NFL: his teams have never finished worse than 9-7, and he’s proven he can make plays in an offense despite his smaller stature (sound familiar?). Wilson led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2017 (34) and passer rating in 2015 (110.1), all while dealing with some of the worst offensive lines in recent NFL history. He’s been sacked fewer than 41 times just once in his career – as a rookie, way back in 2012. He’s also scheduled to become a free agent in March 2020, just like Brees.

He could benefit from a Saints offense with real blockers, and quick-hitting passes designed to protect the quarterback. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, Brees put up one of the fastest times to throw in 2018 (2.59 seconds). Compare that to Wilson, who had to hold onto the ball as much as 3.01 seconds. That half of a second is a lifetime for a quarterback, and it’s often due to the pressure in his face and the time it takes his receivers to get open. It resulted in Brees being sacked just 17 times on 506 dropbacks, and Wilson hitting the dirt 51 times against only 478 dropbacks last season.

We need to see if Breeses arm was hurt sometime in the second half of the season or it’s shot and time to think about replacing him between him and hill Payton can manipulate the process on throwing a long ball not just when he comes in but keep him in for a series halfback passes end around run or chunk it

Wilson wont win you anything, thats the problem.

right now I know of no one other than Taysom Hill that could be a suitable replacement unless you can pull an already established QB from another team. I dont even care for Kevin Kolb really or Wentz despite the circus going on there in Philly.

If you don’t think Wilson will win “anything” then you haven’t watched him often, if ever......that’s just an incorrect statement.

Once Seattle's defense faded and Lynch left, Seattle has been relatively mehhhh.

Wilson would be terrific in New Orleans. Smart, athletic, amazing community supporter. And.....Ciara.

Don't think it'll happen (Russ in NO), however I'd be elated if he did replace Drew.

Seahags wouldn't win 3 games without his leadership & heart. He should have 2 rings instead (dumb sneaky Pete play call cost em) of one at this stage of his career.

This has to be satire.

I actually think Taysom Hill is going to be good. I think once he actually gets some playing time, he'll become more accurate... and teams will always be afraid of him running the ball so he'll throw defenses off.

I think that when Brees is done, we should trade the farm for a top pick to select a new QB. I think we should trade Kamara and Thomas at that time, and also maybe Lattimore or Davenport if we need to. The record is just not very good for teams winning big while paying elite money to all pro receivers or running backs. The Patriots have been in the AFC Championship for what, every year this decade, and they never paid for an all pro receiver or RB except when somebody was thrown away on discount and came for pennies on the dollar. Thomas may be better than Jerry Rice in most ways, but I actually think that having an all pro receiver could serve as a crutch for a new rookie QB, make it hard to evaluate their performance, and cause them to develop in a limited way where they dont see the whole field.

Players with no rings in free agent era: AP, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Barry Sanders, Chad Johnson, Antonio Brown (except as a rookie when he did not much play I think), Laveon Bell, Julio Jones, Ladanian Tomlinson, etc.
