Re: FanSpeak Draft Simulator
Cheramie, do you think Ridley will be there when we finally make our first pick? His combine looked very good to me. Also, no interior O-line? That is high on Payton's list of admitted needs along with TE, WR and DT. I like Moreau but he might be available later from what I'm reading.

Re: FanSpeak Draft Simulator
Second Run (with notes to follow the insanity)...
Okay, so in this model, I'm going to get specific players in this draft that I need to contribute right away and develop for next season with looming cap issues coming and I want to reduce my cap... Value didn't fall to me in R2 so I pull a hybrid non-Payton-Mickster/Payton-Mickster move and traded back AND sent a Future pick to PIT because I want a guard, but I need Day 2 talent now... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R2P30, FUTURE ROUND 3 PICK TO PITTSBURGH STEELERS, RECEIVED R3P2, R3P19 DEITER and a SS are still on board, rolled dice with non-conference JAX and improved my late R5 pick to early R4 pick... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R3P2, R5P30 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS, RECEIVED R3P5, R4P7 Okay, I get my starting future RG (or LG) so now I have options to move Warford, Peat, or Armstead (replaced by Peat or, better, Ramczyk)... 69: R3P5 G MICHAEL DEITER WISCONSIN Worried my SS Chauncey Gardner-Johnson would be taken, I moved up in R3... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R3P19, R7P17, R730 TO BUFFALO BILLS, RECEIVED R3P10 Merde, Merde, Merde - my S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson value was taken, so I move back gaining another Day 2 pick... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R3P10 TO WASHINGTON REDSKINS RECEIVED R3P12, R5P35 Still don't like selecting, cap number value with anyone here and this happens... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R3P12 TO NEW YORK JETS RECEIVED R3P29 AND FUTURE ROUND 2 PICK I hit my home-run of the draft and pick up a second rounder (after trading a future third rounder) for next year's draft in case I need to move up for a franchise QB next year... Okay, get an affordable NFL-ready NT to pair with Taylor Stallworth... 93: R3P29 DL DEMARCUS CHRISTMAS FLORIDA ST. Again, seeing needs of other teams and believe I can get more draft capital here so I move back slightly to pick up add'l pick... TRADE PARTNER: SENT GREEN BAY PACKERS R4P7, RECEIVED R4P12, R4P16 Gamble pays off and I'm able to pick up another terrific guard prospect and another safety prospect - now I've got some real options next year to get my Offensive Line younger and cheaper... Added Bonus, I'm not sweating having to re-sign Vonn Bell and I have leverage should Marcus Williams become a problem re-signing the following year... 114: R4P12 G CONNOR MCGOVERN PENN ST. 118: R4P16 S DARNELL SAVAGE, JR. MARYLAND Need to get a cheaper smart, disciplined backup QB with good throwing arm... 141: R5P3 QB BRETT RYPIEN BOISE ST. Take a young rotational DT3 with some pass rush ability... 173: R5P35 DL DAYLON MACK TEXAS A&M Then I get my big, young blocking tight end with terrific value... 177: R6P4 TE FOSTER MOREAU LSU Crap, my Devery Henderson role player (Ginn Replacement) Alex Wesley is taken, so I moved back... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R6P29 TO CINCINNATI BENGALS, RECEIVED R6P37, R6P38 Wow, still found a good WR with size who can run slot and outside routes... 210: R6P37 WR CODY THOMPSON TOLEDO My other target CB Montrae Hartage from Northwestern, NCB prospect and instant special team ball skills guy was taken, so I get grab an edge defender with size who can at least shut down the run and spell Cam... 211: R6P38 EDGE MAXX CROSBY E. 62: R2P30
WR RILEY RIDLEY ....I'd be elated if he slid to us and was selected by the Saints. He's a very good route runner & has above average hands. Legit #2 option at WR. He'll never blow past defenders but can catch in tight coverage. Sound familiar? See Michael Thomas. |

Re: FanSpeak Draft Simulator
Third Run, First Run after Free Agency First Week (with notes)...
Now that we've run through Free Agency and alleviated the DT need, and have fewer roster holes, I ran the simulator, again... Two biggest needs for the 2019 Saints at this point is Interior Offensive Line, Strong Safety, and Cornerback Depth... Rather than proactively trade back to get an extra Day 2 pick, I wait to see what falls... 62: R2P30 S AMANI HOOKER IOWA:bandg: For the 2019 Saints, moving forward there's no better SS prospect than Hooker, who'll push for snaps immediately vs Vonn Bell. With contract extensions coming for the 2016 Draft Class, need replacement for Bell... In every 3rd round scenario, the top valued guard prospects, Wisconsin's Michael Deiter and Penn State's Connor McGovern are gone quick; now that Max Unger's retirement is official, not impressed with cap money spent on Warford (a backup plan for the failed acquisition of Zeitler), plus Peat's impending Free Agency coming, I address my interior offensive line now. I pull a Sean Payton and trade away future draft capital, again, with a non-conference team... TRADE PARTNER: SENT FUTURE ROUND 2 PICK TO NEW YORK JETS, RECEIVED R3P4 68: R3P4 G CONNOR MCGOVERN PENN ST.:bandg: With my two biggest needs met, I sit and watch to see if outstanding value falls and is worth trading away future picks; LB Blake Cashman is tempting, but I want to break the cycle of having to continue to reach into my future draft capital... Finally, my first pick on Day 3 arrives and it's a terrific developmental CB prospect who has the tools to match Eli Apple, who may not be affordable when his rookie contract expires... 168: R5P30 CB MICHAEL JACKSON MIAMI (FLA.):bandg: As I get ready to select Jackson, I notice two great Tight End prospects sitting there, so being Sean Payton, I trade up with draft capital in this year's draft with a non-conference team, also jumping two picks in front of my rival, the ATL... TRADE PARTNER: SENT R6P4, R7P17 TO CLEVELAND BROWNS RECEIVED R5P32 I can't select the LSU project as I'm Sean Payton, so I take the Ole Miss athlete who can run the seam for me with his great hands and should score plenty vs those ATL LBers... 170: R5P32 TE DAWSON KNOX OLE MISS:bandg: Okay, so Day 3 flies along and the steal that I hope for falls to me... 202: R6P29 WR CODY THOMPSON TOLEDO:bandg: This is one of my sneaky picks I'm most excited for because now I got a guy who's already a polished route runner and has a great hitch and burst to get upfield quick and stretch the pass coverage, Ted Ginn's replacement next year... Okay, I'm really stoked about my haul now, so I'm looking for continued depth specifically at either CB or OL and a great NB prospect falls into my lap who's a turnover machine who's got great instincts, vision who can watch the QB and play his man in the short field... 244: R7P30 CB JORDAN WYATT SMU:bandg: If the worst I have to do is trade one future pick, a second rounder to get an early third round pick to get an elite Guard/Center prospect, I'm feeling really good about this draft class... It's worth noting, I really believe we'll be trading at least one of our offensive linemen to not only create cap room, but to inject some youth stamina into an offensive line that really under-performed for the cap money spent... Re: FanSpeak Draft Simulator
I do not like Irv Smith at all for even a third round pick...
His height is an issue as we often use our big, tall tight ends to post-up in the red zone or short yardage situations... Plus, his athleticism fell short at the Combine vs Foster Moreau and Kahale Warring; they'd be better grades and options for us... |

The biggest "threat" in today's NFL at TE is SIZE. Corner backs excel and match up well in terms of speed however no one wants to deal with a tight ends height/size & wing span. See Cook, Jimmy Dickens & Shockey, Kelcey & Gronk. All at least 6'5 or greater. Prospects Foster & Warring are big dudes too. Luckily for us, Brees will target Cook in the redzone. Match up nightmare. |

To the uninitiated in draft talk, most people don't understand that one inch in height could mean three to four inches in total reach, extension... With the exception of a few overrated QBs, most NFL QBs can accurately lob a ball to within six inches of a target - that reach makes all the difference... |

My bad, Smash, as I just realized you were asking about the Tight End converted to Right Tackle Nate Wozniak... Guess we'll see what his progression is like in mini-camps, training camp, pre-season; it's a up-hill as he's learning a new position, in practice? With little live snaps experience to really hone his position... |

Re: FanSpeak Draft Simulator
Well, starting to settle in to my guys; as I want to spread the talent around to different positions, agree with y'all that if we've got to add a receiver, let it be a Tight End...
Max Scharping, who I really like as much as Zach Allen, is going a lot higher now. Warring will definitely go higher, likely by the early 3rd; I'd consider a Future Second for a high third round pick and take Warring... Ozigbo is a steal, and I'd like options as we don't know that Latavius will be a fit for the Saints as FA Vets tend have their own ways whereas Rookies are more pliable... Barton may not last that long as he's a terrific athlete vs a football player; I'd take FB Alec Ingold here in that case or Texas A&M Keaton Sutherland as a utility lineman... 62: R2P30 DL ZACH ALLEN BOSTON COLLEGE 116: R4P20 TE KAHALE WARRING SAN DIEGO ST. 168: R5P30 CB COREY BALLENTINE WASHBURN 177: R6P4 RB DEVINE OZIGBO NEBRASKA 202: R6P29 S SHELDRICK REDWINE MIAMI (FLA.) 231: R7P17 C JON BAKER BOSTON COLLEGE 244: R7P30 LB CODY BARTON UTAH TEAM DRAFT ASSESMENT DL ZACH ALLEN BOSTON COLLEGE WR NONE DRAFTED CB COREY BALLENTINE WASHBURN S SHELDRICK REDWINE MIAMI (FLA.)
