NFLNew Orleans Saints expected to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater

It looks like Teddy Bridgewater won’t be moving on to another team to become a starter after all.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Bridgewater is expected to re-sign with the New Orleans Saints to remain Drew Brees’ backup.

Bridgewater made five appearances and started one game for the Saints this past season, completing 14 of his 23 passes for 181 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Interesting. I was sure he wanted to go somewhere to start. I wonder what kind of deal they're striking up. And how long of a contract...

I was looking forward to seeing him go. This man is not the answer to replace Drew. If we could get a pick for him I say use that to draft a young quarterback and develop him. I hope what they say about don't believe everything you read to be true.

Resign for trade at a later date? Wonder what this means to Ingrams contract.

So....Drew just wants to play one more year? I can't see us tying up that much money to a back up for a couple of years. Drew may have decided that he is looking at retirement(God I hope not) and we think TB is the future. I like him but I'm not so sure he is the heir apparent.

Re: NFLNew Orleans Saints expected to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater

You won't get a heir for Brees
The best best is to have a man that can step in a run a offense. Without that expect years in the netherworld and the better players walking. Unless you luck into having franchise QB coming out the year after you tank cause you have no QB you likely are not getting one. How often do franchise level QBs hit the market?

If no one is coming after him, what does that tell you about what "insiders" really think of him...

It's like us going after Belichick's cast-offs - don't do it, and definitely don't overpay for him...

If you're John Elway, EVERY YEAR!!!!!

Those "INSIDERS"? How do they get "INSIDE"? (ONLY EGGSPURTS KNOW FOR CERTAIN)

Never forget the "INSIDERS" that said "NO!" to Brees!!

Nobody wanted Brees after his injury either

Let's hope we have a Favre/Rodgers situation on our hands then ... without the Favre yo-yo-ing and unretiring.

There goes our 3rd round pick but would we have gone after a qb in 3rd anyway if bridge was traded. So we’re even

I had high hopes for Teddy when he first came in the building, and I think the jury is still sorta out on him. But that Panthers game at the end of the season was hot garbage, and it wasn't just Teddy. NOBODY in a Saints starting uniform wanted to be on the field for that game, it was terrible on both sides of the ball, terrible game planning, poor coaching, poor playing, but I don't think that ONE game was really representative of what this team would be, post-Brees, if Teddy were to take over for real. It was an eyesore of a game, it was a miserable showing, but I think there were many things going on behind the scenes in that game, that made it much worse than a truly representative sample of what a Brees-less Saints with Bridgewater under center in the regular season would really be like. Everything about that game was whack, from the very start. Throw out the tape and burn it.

At least we will get a full preseason to see what he’s got.
I so badly want to wish Taysom into a starting QB. Dude has heart and a mean streak. Probably won’t happen but I love the guy.

Re: NFLNew Orleans Saints expected to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater

IDK ...

Coach Sean Payton/Joe Lombardi had a full year to work with Teddy. They've seen him every day in practice, meetings, etc. Kind of hard to slam the guy based off a couple of games late in the year. IIRC we rested Kamara, rested a bunch of O lineman, then Andrus got hurt. We had two tackles off the street protecting TB blindside while he was running for his life. And despite that, he wasn't garbage.

IMO he's better than Chase Daniel ever was & 2M more than Case Keenum.

I won't pretend to know what goes on behind closed doors but I think the HC and his staff have a lot more insight & knowledge about all aspects of the decision than any of us do.

Re: NFLNew Orleans Saints expected to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater

Don't but into the apologist reasons for Bridgewater as the Carolina Rookie QB outplayed him and was not surrounded with talent either; McCaffrey was pulled early - Bridgewater still had Mike Thomas...

Plus, Bridgewater's only NFL success came as a play-action QB with a bell-cow RB in a younger, peaked Adrian Peterson; and then there's his inability to stay healthy...

Without Brees, we're not winning a Superbowl, but a backup QB to spell Brees a game, maybe two is necessary, but doesn't have to be as expensive as Bridgewater either, allowing money for other positions...

Credit coach Payton for the Chopper style start in week 16, subsequent crash and burn. Now Saints can keep him on the cheap for development.

Sean has been paying attention to the Pats and Belichick.

Genius :bng:.

Teddy was a probowler before he got hurt. Hes got alot of potential and if sean wants him to stay he must have something that caught his eyes as well. Will he be drew of course not but sean will re-do the play book to play on teddys strengths just like he did with drew and alvin.

"Inability to stay healthy?" Dude, he got his knee blasted and destroyed. He came back. That's the only real injury he's ever had. And he hasn't had anything since. You make it sound like he's constantly injured.

I think TB is better than a lot of other backups. And he can still be coached up more. He hasn't hit his ceiling yet.

As long as we dont over pay for him, I like it. The only thing better would be T. Hill. He's an animal and is a blast to watch. But he still needs refinement.

I just see us getting to the NFC Championship game with Teddy and him blowing out both knees or something but we've been losing NFC Championship games anyway so what the hell. I still want Getsom Taysom!

Bridgewater could've signed with the Dolphins and became a starter, but would rather be a backup here....

That should speak volumes to everyone about how dysfunctional of a team Miami is.

I’m ok with TB leaving. Again, I didn’t see anything that made me confident in him as our starter.

Same, he could barely complete a pass against the Panthers backups in Week 17.

I was meh about the signing in the first place, I honestly don't think he or Taysom are our QB of the future.

Re: NFLNew Orleans Saints expected to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reports that the rumors of Saints HC Sean Payton possibly taking the Cowboys’ job in 2020 are a concern for free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater and whether he returns to New Orleans.

A source close to Bridgewater tells Hill that they’re aware of the rumors and there’s no guarantee Payton will remain the Saints head coach once Drew Brees has retired.

Teddy getting cold feet because of Sean Payton rumors?

The SP to Dallas rumors never cease to persist. I wasn't even married back when we first started hearing that crap. This makes me feel old.
