Could Saints lose Teddy Bridgewater? Dolphins plan to meet with QB
An ESPN report Wednesday (March 13) said if the Dolphins kick in another $1-2 million that the Saints would let the 26-year-old leave for South Beach. Later, NFL Network said the Dolphins planned to meet with the Miami native, further signifying the potential progress made by the two sides.
The Dolphins are looking for a quarterback after letting Ryan Tannehill leave after five seasons as a starter. The Saints are reported by NFL Network to have offered a one-year offer for $7 million, and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported how Bridgewater previously turned down a two-year deal for $10 million from Miami. Before this, Bridgewater appeared to have limited options when several other teams made deals for quarterbacks. read more here |

Nightmare scenario - we're stuck with Bridgewater (Payton's man), Sean goes to Dallas, Brees retires, we suck it but have to watch another team select Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence that Payton traded away...

I dont mind losing bridgewater. I see no evidence he is elite. If brees somehow could not take the field, i would rather tank and take the draft picks. If brees was out short term and bridgewater filled in well enough for us to sneak into the playoffs, I dont think we run the table on the road with the refs and crowd against us. I would rather spend the 6 million getting brees an extra target to win now.

I think that with bridgewater long term, we would be a 500-ish team like the titans, bengals, or redskins have been lately, or the chiefs before maholmes? Is that relevent? Sure. But it will never win a championship and it will keep us from getting high picks. I would rather tank than be the titans. If we pick the wrong qb or pick in a bad year we can start again.
The 6 million or whatever it will cost for bridgewater, we can add a player to help brees win now. Calls aside, if we had added an extra TE or receiver or oline instead of bridgewater, we might have had a ring the refs could not take away so easily. If brees retires or something, and we do want to go 9-7, we can find 9-7 style qbs on the free agent market then, when the money can no longer be spent to help brees. Bridgewater was a free agent twice. Cousins, foles, bortles, tannehill, etc have been out there. Flacco and keenum. Keenum was better on the vikings than bridgewater. If payton is a qb genius he can find some qb when he needs to. We dont need a high priced backup now. Plus i dont care if bridgewater is 26, he has a very very bad injury in his history. Breaux was young too, it did not matter. A 2 year leg injury seems like a big deal. Bridgewater being hesitant to take a starting gig tells me he may not have full confidence in his leg and may rather take smaller checks and nit bet on the leg. |

Spending money on Teddy doesn't stop them from adding pieces to help us win now. They've found ways to do it for years now. And I don't want to see us go all in for the present at the expense of the future, that would be foolish. Teddy's injury is a thing of the distant past, and I dont buy into the idea that he's reluctant to be a starter because of it. I think he recognizes the opportunity here to take over an established and winning franchise with a high powered offense. He isnt elite, but I absolutely believe he's better than all those guys you listed. Some here have made way too big of a deal out of his start against Carolina. Yeah it wasnt pretty, but the whole team played like ass that day, including our entire starting defense against a rookie 3rd string QB. Those games happen, it's an anomaly. You learn whatever you can from it and move on. We'd be much better off with Teddy than without him. |

THE REAL PROBLEM JUST MAY BE...
PAYTON TO DALLAS RUMORS - FAKE NEWS? NBC SPORTS Does Dallas and the NFL really wants Payton as head coach in Dallas? You think Miami isn't telling/selling this point? FACE IT... Damn I hate to say and think this... The NFL doesn't want the Saints in the Superbowl. Payton has to realize that the league would never screw him in the playoffs if he were in Dallas. That guaranteed could never happen in New Orleans. Payton could easily decide to go to Dallas after the 2019 season if Brees retires. Miami could easily be telling Bridgewater to consider what would happen if Payton leaves New Orleans. He may not want a long term agreement with the Saints because key veterans could also leave. Then the Saints could easily fall back into a 3rd rate team in the NFL again. |
