The AAF will suspend all football operations
It’s not over. But it’s close.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Alliance of American Football will be suspending all football operations within the next few hours. The league won’t be folding, yet. But it seems to be moving in that direction. The move comes in the aftermath of ominous comments from Tom Dundon, who became majority owner of the AAF several weeks ago. Dundon committed $250 million in funding to the league, but he had the ability to pull funding, and he obviously has. AAF on PFT - Already? |
Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
I don't get this whole NFLPA practice squad ends the season thing. They already have teams with rosters to play out the season. Folks were starting to come around. There is and always will be a lot of players that wash out from the NFL that could be "household names" in the AAF giving the league time to show it is a successful product.

Hope Vince McMahon is paying attention. The XFL ain't gonna make it either.

Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
I don't get how they can start these new leauge without making sure they have funding for atleast a season. Its not a serious business practise.

Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
At $250K per player they must have just set it too high.

Maybe it''s a sign that NFL will be coming back down to earth in terms of player salaries and team valuations.

I thought that coin toss thing they did was silly too. 2 guys making a dash for the ball at center field... It will be interesting to see what they do differently second time around. |

Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
Maybe they should start playing rugby if it doesn't work out.....it doesn't pay as much but there is international travel and free beer! :chug:
Edit: We have an international team, USA Rugby. which plays other countries but there is also professional rugby teams that make a good salary. Just sayin' |
Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
It is highly unlikely any football league has a real chance at making it. There is just too much money and power behind the NFL and college football, and these powerful wealthy people will never allow anything to interrupt their profit margin.

Re: The AAF will suspend all football operations
The NFL seems fine with the CFL as a farm league.

Pro sports has a lot of drama and can be like a soap opera at times cause the drama is entertaining at times. McMahon seemed to catch onto this and played it perfectly in the XFL. The NBA has the most drama of any pro sport in this country. Just look at all the stupid debates about LeBron James and over-analyzing of little meaningless things. Retired NBA players sound like bitter old men always talking about "back in my day, it was better". |
