If it keeps them in NOLA long term so I don't have to worry about it, I don't care what it takes.

It kind of did :) $134MM to build in 1975 = $633MM 2019 dollars. I suspect at least 10-15% of that $449MM is due to graft, and 8-9% of the spend is going right back into the economy as sales tax.

New construction can cost less than a major renovation because of the added costs of tearing down and disposing of the old structure. E.G. Laying carpet in a new home is cheaper than replacing carpet in an old one.

Heck for another 499 mill u can build a stadium over the Mississippi River on a bridge with an ice cream truck selling stock in another bridge to the stadium on the Mississippi River. Rip the thing down already and build something alla Pittsburg on the river

A lot of money, but needed if the city is going to compete as a host for the Super Bowl, NCAA's, etc.

The big impact for us will be the SRO viewing decks- that will shrink the season ticket waiting list, drop secondary market prices, and more importantly, bring an extra 1000-1500 screaming fans into the building.

The SRO sales in Atlanta have been great- for their real football team, United, not the Falcons

ALL THAT FOR A "SMALL MARKET" TEAM THAT THE NFL NEVER WANTS TO SEE IN THE SUPER BOWL AGAIN?

Will we ever learn? Never a Small Market Team!!!

Wow. Putting in all those escalators now? I'd love to have the seats widened by about two (2) inches (50.8 mm for our Euro Bros) that way the boys aren't so crowded at games...

Am curious to see how they integrate the standing room section as they borrow from other new concepts...

Am ambivalent about the floor level box suites in the end-zone, kinda like that average fans can celebrate scores with the players...

In the 14th century, King Edward II of England ruled that 1 inch equalled 3 grains of barley placed end to end lengthwise.

For our English Cousins 2" would be 6 grains of barley placed end to end and lenghtwise.

I'll send my check every month to pay for it, if it keeps the Saints in New Orleans for another 20 years!

I live 35 miles from Indianapolis and pay for Lucas Oil Stadium! Odds are very good that I'll never step foot in the place.

Update visiting teams locker rooms? WTF

We have illegal immigrants pouring into the city by rail.
You may soon see homeless people around the front of the Superdome.

Gut it and start over. I would never be for a “new” stadium but putting band aids on it every 5 years doesn’t do much to keep the Dome up to date. Keep the outside as is and redo the entire inside. Put a few decent restaurants in there for crying out loud. We have some of the best food in the world but food choices are limited. Add all your sky boxes, sports bars and maybe even a retractable roof hole.

It's been a while since I went to a game due to my health and the fact I live outside the state now. I went in 2008 after the renovations and was really impressed with it.

The only thing I miss from the old Superdome look was the endzones being painted black with the gold lettering.

Billionaire welfare bums. They can afford these new stadiums, but lord forbid they actually pay for them. The Rams owner Kroenke should've been criticized repeatedly for moving the Rams to L.A. after the city of St. Louis was paying for renovations to their old dome.

I'm just happy to keep the Saints in NO long term. That being said it is a bunch of BS. John Oliver breaks it down below fantastically.

I love the Super Dome! Renovate whenever we need to keep it viable for the Super Bowl. I guess beer prices are going up again.....

It was gutted in 2006. Completely down to the bare shell. Everything in there is new since then including the huge video boards. What they are (and have been) doing is keeping it up to date. It isn't bandaids.

Dallas, Minny, and soon LA are seeing super feedback on the standing room only sections and floor-level boxes, so if we're to host SuperBowls, the host committee has got to be able to check-off the same boxes...

Just not a fan of corporate welfare from taxpayer dollars...

Looks like we're only covering about 20% of the total and if that means keeping the Saints around an additional ten years I have no issue with that. Besides, the Dome brings in lots of dollars outside of the NFL every year.
