Saban said the Dolphins considered taking a quarterback in each round of the draft, especially Kyle Orton and Adrian McPherson.

"We never felt like, relative to the rest of our needs, there was a guy in any particular position that we could take," Saban said. "I liked Adrian McPherson."

The former Florida State quarterback went to the Saints 10 picks before Miami in the fifth round. Purdue's Orton was taken by the Bears two slots after Miami selected Travis Daniels in the fourth round.
