One of the New Orleans Saints’ best players has a new contract.

Defensive end Cameron Jordan and the organization have agreed to terms on a three year contract extension that will keep the two sides together through the 2023 season, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jordan will sign a three year contract worth a total of $52.5 million and a maximum value of $55.5 million with guarantees that could exceed $42 million, according to the report.

Jordan is coming off another successful season for New Orleans after leading the team with 12 sacks, in addition to 49 tackles, six pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. He was named to his fourth career Pro Bowl and was named an All Pro for the second straight year.

Last season, Jordan moved into fourth place on the Saints’ all time record list for sacks with 71.5 in total. He also became the first Saints player to have six straight seasons of at least 60 total tackles and 7.5 sacks, and he’s the fourth player in franchise history to have at least four years of double digit sack totals.

A former first round draft pick from California by the Saints eight years ago, Jordan has consistently been one of the most productive players at his position in the NFL, and has been one of the few bright spots on a defense that, in most years since then, has not been one of the best.

But as the Saints’ fortunes have improved on the defensive side of the ball over the past two seasons, Jordan has remained as arguably the best player among their starters.

In 128 games for New Orleans, Jordan has recorded 410 tackles, 71.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, 44 pass breakups, and one defensive touchdown.

Jordan is a four time Pro Bowl selection, was a first team All Pro in the 2017 season, and a second team All Pro this past season.

His career has been a model of consistency, starting all but one game that he has played, and since the 2012 season, his second in football, Jordan has averaged over 10 sacks per year.

Going forward, Jordan has expressed a desire to help the Saints avenge their last two playoff eliminations and return the team to the Super Bowl game this season.

“We’re taking one step closer each and every year, for us, as long as we keep doing what we do, as long as we keep our eyes on the prize, keep our eyes focused on what we have to accomplish, hopefully that leads us into the next step, which would be a Super Bowl next year,” Jordan said.

The contract for Jordan represents one major financial commitment the Saints had wanted to get completed sooner rather than later, and now with Jordan’s name on a new deal, the organization is expected to turn their attention to wide receiver Michael Thomas.
