Saints Hall of Fame Museum | Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Swing by the Dome and visit their store/museum. Their training facility on Airline is not always open to the public. There is also the Saints Hall of Fame... it's worth a visit.

Careful on the charbroiled oysters at Dragos. They are too proud of them now. I think they are overpriced now (around $22-24 a dozen). They are cheaper at Felix's and probably just as good.

I was at Kenner Seafood the other day. Love that place. Locals only. Too far out and stay out of the French Quarter because it will be over priced.

METAIRIE
Drago's Metairie 3232 N Arnoult Rd, Metairie, LA 70002 - Their grilled oysters are the best. A bit expensive but worth it.

https://www.dragosrestaurant.com/wp-...ed-oysters.jpg

Acme Oyster House 3000 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, LA 70002 - Quality and reasonably priced.

https://www.nola.com/resizer/yC9eD4v...22210284e3.jpg

All the places by the Lake Pontchartrain in Metairie are really great but they have no view of lake.

Click Here for places in Metairie. Also love New Orleans Food & Spirits, R&Os and Deanie’s Seafood (A local favorite)

NEW ORLEANS

There a ton of places. There are some really good high priced places and some reasonable places that offer outstanding food.

In New Orleans there are numerous places.

Mandina's Restaurant 3800 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 7011 - I love this place.
Old New Orleans style Italian and Seafood Since 1932.

http://mandinasrestaurant.com/wp/wp-...me-history.jpg

Landry's Seafood House 8000 Lake-shore Dr, New Orleans, LA 70124 - A bit expensive but has a great view of the Lake Pontchartrain.

New Orleans Lakefront by Landry's

http://culturecurious.net/wp-content...?189db0&189db0

Pick one... you can't go wrong. I've been living in New Orleans/Metairie for 60 years. :D

Drago's is a personal favorite but is a little expensive. Landry's has the view. All of them are really good and eaten at all of them many times. If I were taking someone to New Orleans, I go with the view.

And don't forget:

Charlie's Steak House There is nothing fancy about Charlie's Steak House, just a great steak and a great time.
Opens at 5pm with weird hours.

YOU DON'T ASK FOR A MENU AT CHARLIE'S UNLESS IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME, AND THAT'S WHEN EVERYBODY LAUGHS AT YOU. THERE IS NO MENU, JUST TELL YOUR WAITER THE SIZE AND HOW YOU WOULD LIKE IT COOKED. OH, AND WHEN IT ARRIVES, HOLD YOUR NAPKIN UP IN FRONT OF YOU SO THE SPATTERING GREASE DOESN'T RUIN YOUR SHIRT.

SERVICE AT CHARLIE'S HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIT UNIQUE. MOST OF THE TIME YOUR WAITER TOLD YOU WHAT YOU WERE HAVING,
NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THIS WORKED OUT WELL SINCE THERE WAS NO MENU. INEXPERIENCED DINERS HAVE OFTEN BEEN LEFT WITH A " WHAT JUST HAPPENED ? " LOOK ON THEIR FACE AFTER ORDERING. SOMETIMES A REGULAR CUSTOMER'S FOOD WOULD SHOW UP BEFORE THEY EVEN KNEW THEY HAD ORDERED. THERE WAS LOTS OF HUMOR, MOSTLY DEADPAN AND DRY WIT, ONE LINERS BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH WITH SOME SARCASM AND A SHORT QUIP,
AND THE FREQUENT PRACTICAL JOKE.

http://www.charliessteakhousenola.co...o%20sephia.jpg
http://www.charliessteakhousenola.com/sizzle.jpg

Simply some of the best steaks you ever ate for a reasonable price. No fluff here.
The Charlie... our thick cut 32 oz T-BONE - Easily fills 2 people. Outstanding!

A New Orleans Tradition.

Cafe Dumonde - Coffee and Beignets
In French Quarter by Jackson Square at the River just to the right front on picture.
They also have other locations around town.

GREAT TIME AND NOT EXPENSIVE.

This is a great series of posts. Living in Ohio now, when I tell people I'm from Louisiana the assumption is I'm from New Orleans. They don't realize that there is more to LA than NO, though you NO natives would likely disagree. People also just assume I can recommend great hole in the wall NO restaurants.

I will archive this post for the numerous times a year I'm asked to recommend a NO eating establishment.

Thanks guys.

Drago's, Mandina's and Charlie's Steak House are all great, but everything depends on your budget. They are not extremely expensive but not cheap by any means.

Recommended More Expensive Restaurants (Not in any order)...
Ralph's On The Park
Antoine's Restaurant
Brennan's
Galatoires Restaurant
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
I Named just a few...
Unless you are staying in the French Quarter and don't have transportation, don't dine in the French Quarter because some places are extremely expensive for what you get. Even the locals don't eat there. :?

One time I had just 3 shrimp for $22 in 2004. Unreal. There are some decent places but you must ask someone before you go anywhere.

As far as Saints things to do - Hebert's WWL Radio Show always draws a few Saints alum out, find out if they're at a restaurant and check out the show Live - my cousin was in town and took her son Tues...

They got to see Deuce, Pat Swilling, and Coach O from LSU - all were accommodating and spoke with fans at length...

Also, go to the Superdome, check the hours ahead of time, but there's the Saints HOF, Saints Gift Shop has Game Day Specific Mdse...

And a picture in front of the Gleason Blocked Punt Memorial makes a great avatar...

If you're going to the Casino (NOLA Council stupidly only allows one in Orleans) Manning's Restaurant is right there and has great memorabilia...

If you want other things to do, get a Snoball at Hansen's Sno-Bliz, 4801 Tchoupitoulas, AND one block away is Zach Strief's Port Orleans MicroBrewery and Grille...

It's ($$) affordable, and Zach usually is milling around and about the best guy to visit with about the Saints...

Agreed on Galatoirs and Antoine’s. Not the best food anymore but they are true representatives of real New Orleans fine dining and have a style of service that is quickly becoming extinct.

If you want upscale Try
Costera for tapas- currently my favorite in Nola, portions are huge.

John Beshs’ Dominica at the Roosevelt for awesome upscale Italian and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Plus you just have to see the place and have a Sazerac in the Blue Room.

Alon Shayas’ Saba for Eastern Mediterranean

I got lots more just let me know

Agree with Dominica and Shaya's, although you almost have to know somebody to get into Shaya's. Fortunately my son's girlfriend worked there.

One more thing ... try Antoine's Lunch Special. It is now $20.19 and can't be beat for the price. It includes three drinks, appetizer, entree and a dessert. And you get to enjoy the full elegance of the establishment.

By the way, if you got the special back in 1967 it would have cost you $19.67. It's becoming a better deal every year.

Another great little known New Orleans tradition. We go there once every trip.

I forgot about this. Guido is right, it really can’t be beat and like I said it’s the pinnacle of old school New Orleans fine dining. Restaurants that have full brigade service like that are soon going to be a thing of the past. You need to try it just for the life experience. Get the soufflé potatoes. Not what you think. Potatoes sliced thin lengthwise and fried until the puff up served with bearnaise.

I second Dragos but only the one in Metairie.
Make sure you try a food truck. La Cocinita, Bonafried, Fete au Fete, taceaux loceaux are all good for a quick bite.

Willy Mae’s is touristy now but probably something you should do. Not often will you find a James Beard award winning soul food joint. (Edit Dookie Chase but Willies is alright too)

If you find yourself drunk in Mid City go to Beachcorner for awesome burgers cooked and served by hotties with big Ta Tas in bikini tops. They really know how to work a griddle.
