USA Today/Saints Wire: Saints training camp: Winners and losers from first week of practice

Winner: Trey Hendrickson, defensive end

Winner: Jared Cook, tight end

Winner: Marshon Lattimore, cornerback

Loser: Ken Crawley, cornerback

Loser: Latavius Murray, running back

Loser: Lil’Jordan Humphrey, wide receiver

Sigler provides some noticeable insight to why he brought the praise, criticism to these player - Real Good Read...

Surprised and particularly happy to see that Hendrickson has reacted positively to the competition in camp...

Equally disappointed to see that Crawley is struggling and has not been able to regain his form...

The Murray signing bothered me more about not keeping Mark Ingram; and the word out of camp so far is concerning...

Time for the perpetual first down and flag machine to go.

By Crawley!

It's a wrap for Crawley. He will never recover. His confidence has been gone (ATL Ridley 3 td game really exposed him) for a while now & apparently he's not grasping what Coach Aaron Glenn is teaching. Dude just can't seem to focus and avoid holding the defender while down field. I fully expect Kayvon Webster (also has value on special teams) to take his job by the end of camp.

I knew that other article was a fluff piece. It contradicted everything I heard or read about Murray. Our RB situation could be a problem.

What did it contradict? Payton said on a live interview that he has really liked what he has seen from Murray so far. The article doesn't say anything that contradicts that. It simply states that he has been held out of some practices due to an apparent injury. That's not all too uncommon at this point.

What exactly have you heard on Murray?

Just the other day coach Payton said ... "when you are already a contender, I'm more cautious about injuries".

The season is long & a grind.

Yes. Payton already knows what he has in both Kamara and Murray. There's no need to march someone out there in practice that is dealing with a minor injury when you are counting on him during the regular season. He is apparently far less pleased with the others.

Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: Saints training camp: Winners and losers from first week of practice

Murray has a moderate injury. Kamara is out there and he is more valuable so not buying the preservation stuff. We brought in all those Vet RB's for a reason. It's also par for the course with Payton. Brings in Vets before the nature of the injury is fully revealed.

You also bring in vets to sign after week one if needed. You are locked into the full seasons salary if signed before the first game when dealing with vets. I'm thinking he may be looking for a third back to bring in if none of the young ones pan out or are ready and then bring one up from the practice squad once they show more promise.

Murray is hurt. He brought in those Vets fast. Could have done a while back.

Yes he's hurt. What is your point? He could be back anytime. It's frickin' training camp. You already pitching the doom and gloom line?

He’s been absent from several practices, otherwise nothing. Both of which are not good signs considering the importance of the role he is supposed to play. I’m calling it now, he’s another Byrd/Merideth bogus signing. On the plus side I hear good things about Washington.

I mean it’s like clockwork. Repeating the same damn thing over and over expecting different results. Same thing every year and every year Guido refuses to admit there is a problem. I hope to god he works out. I hope he shuts up all the naysayers but I’m not optimistic. I sure as hell don’t want them to have to use Kamara when it comes to chewing clock.

I Hope Murray kills it but this is a not a fire drill. Maybe it's serious, maybe it's not but it's a problem. Payton is also paranoid about RB's since the year we loss something like 5 before the season even started. Following year we got Ingram in the 1st.

THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!

AS FOR BYRD IN HIS BUFFALO CAREER HE STARTED 66 GAMES PLAYED IN 73 HAD 22 INT 2 RETURNED FOR TD FORCED 11 FUMBLES

MERIDITH WAS A RISK WITH THE INJURY BUT AREN'T THE SAINTS THE TEAM THAT SIGNED A QB WHO "BLEW OUT" HIS THROWING SHOULDER?

I DON'T UNDERSTAND LETTING INGRAM GO FOR MURRAY BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS. ALL THE KINGS HORSE AND ALL THE KINGS MEN WON'T PUT HUMPTY TOGETHER AGAIN!

I also said I hope Murray kills it and maybe it's not serious but ok.

Right now he's missing training camp which is critical. This is the time to make mistakes and refine on a new offense. In order to kill it he has to get out there.

Murray is at camp and learning the offense. They have just put on pads for the first time. He's an experienced veteran. It's best he gets fully healthy. If it was anything serious I doubt he would have dressed as was reported.

I'm actually not too worried bout Murray...he'll come around soon enough. It'd be nice to sign another vet RB, but DWash is a capable RB.

No. If he is not out there he will screw up come game time. This is a new system. Does not matter if he is a Vet. Look at Snead. He missed all those games and practice and look what happened. A faint shadow of what he was before. HAVE TO PRACTICE.

No way around it. Murray, Julio, does not matter. Not on the field then the team will suck when they return. It is a level of technical debt that can't be overcome without practice. Julio missed gobs of practice. He dropped and fumbled many a balls last season. A lot of people forget that fact. I do not. He missed lots of practice and the results were failure. Drops, fumbles. Something he normally does not do but he did it.
