JJ will either break the bank or get traded. I’m leaning toward a sign and trade. Sure he’s a great wr but he’s getting up there and stays hobbled.

They are paying him. It will break the bank. MT probably could have got more so great for us.

JJ is a stat padder as I posted this in another thread yesterday -

Julio Jones Is Great At Everything But Catching Short Touchdowns

Julio had 1,677 receiving yards last year but only 8 TDs. He's a complete non-factor when the Falcons are in the redzone. People will defend him by saying he's double and triple covered, but so what? Same thing happened to MT last year.

He's often compared heavily to Jerry Rice solely for his yardage numbers but he don't have the TDs to back it up. He's basically a Herman Moore clone, but without the excuse of having mediocre QBs throwing to him for his entire career. Moore was an elite WR and only had one year with a good QB (Scott Mitchell in 1995) while every other year the Lions offense was crippled by bad QB play and overly relying on Barry Sanders.

To further note how ridiculous the Julio/Rice comparisons are, there was legit debate last year if Calvin Ridley was outplaying him as the year went on. John Taylor is the forgotten WR of those old 49er teams and while he had his moments of greatness, there was never any question about Rice being the top guy. Rice was the top guy until Terrell Owens came around in those twilight years of their dominance.

Phuck Julio

Michael Thomas 85% catch percentage in 2018.

Highest catch rate (minimum 100 targets) in 27 +/- years (since they started tracking.

A sign and trade will never happen. You cannot trade that type of cap hit. It is impossible. A sign and trade might happen early in the off-season with a minor positional player.

I'm going to go against the grain here with my opinion. I love Michael Thomas, he's one of the best WRs in the league. He's just not Julio Jones though in overall skill set, who I believe to be one of the best receivers ever but got stuck with Matt Ryan. Michael Thomas may be a bit better on the short ball, which goes well with Brees, but I just can't say with a straight face that I believe Michael Thomas is better than Julio Jones, cause he isn't.
