What Will Make Or Break Murray
Pass catching. Look for it in preseason, especially screens. If he can do this he will have success.
If not, it will be a disaster. They will stack the box on him. He will have to catch about 50 passes to make it work. He has never done that in his career. I think he can do it, he got up to 41 once so it should be fine. He must have success with screens early. If that happens look out. He is bigger, stronger and faster than Ingram. If he misses anymore practice though it's going to be a rough start. He has to build up the chemistry and confidence with Brees and the OL. He does seem to have the right attitude so that is a big part of it. |
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
I dont really agree with you. Imho it doesn't really matter if its Murray catching the balls, whats important is that its not ALWAYS a run when he is in like it tended to be with Ingram.
Mix up the formations, spread it out, make the defence unable to stack the box, those things I would say are more important. |
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
He caught just fine at Yulman stadium... no worries there.

Not sure why Latavius is such a "worry" for some. Guy is a proven vet, doesn't miss games, doesn't fumble and he will be a valuable asset on third & short (perfect short yardage back), 4th and goal. Many must have a short memory ... go watch last year's game vs the Vikes. Latavius was ripping us up until Zimmer abandoned the run game. For him to avg 4.1 ypc over the course of 16 games with that below avg O line last year was kind of impressive. RELAX. |
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
I've watched all his games the last few years. If we use him like we did Ingram early in his career or AD it will fail. He will get stuffed for 2-3 yards most of the time if not blown up at the line just like they did.
It wasn't until Ingram got involved in passing he started having success but that took a while to develop. |
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
I definitely think they will stack the box an d if so we need to put him in space catching balls.

Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
Him and Armstead will spend more time in the training room than on the field.
Just trying to prepare you for it now lol |

Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
I really have more faith in Washington than Murray. I also don’t think we really need another back who excels in the passing game to have success. We have more receiving threats than we have in a long time. We need a back that can control the clock on the ground. I don’t want to be forced to use Kamara for that. If he can get involved in the passing game then great. I’m just not sold. Maybe a bad taste in my mouth from past FA signings

Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
Recent record bringing in Vet RB's is not good. Sproles and Hightower were exceptions. A lot of red flags. Age, health, unknown true catch ability. Someone said he is wearing a back brace. Not sure if true. Guess we will find out soon what we have.

Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
We just need Murray to do what CJ Anderson did for the Rams last year. As the season wears on and defenses wear down and get banged up get him more carries and let him take some pressure off Kamara. If Murray has 2.4 yards per carry through the first 6 games we might need to be patient is what I'm saying.

Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
For a newly acquired FA running back who has yet to play in one meaningful game for the Black and Gold, I don't think I've ever seen so much malevolence & venom.
Maybe Saints coaches should come to their senses and cut him now . |

Latavius Murray is like the fifth option in our offense. Stack the box with everything you've got.
Burn, you learn! |

Quote:
Murray career catch percentage - 79.0% Ingram career yards/target - 5.58 Murray career yards/target - 5.45 Ingram career yards/reception - 7.0 Murray career yards/reception - 6.9 You'd be hard pressed to find two running backs with closer receiving stats. |
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
right now I wish they paid the 1 million extra for Ingram however I think Kamara can take over the payload
|
Re: What Will Make Or Break Murray
The stats though are from different sample sizes and different routes.
Murray career catches: 128 Ingram career catches: 228 As for routes, just looking at highlights, Murray has almost no screens. It's mostly Carlos Hyde style dump offs. With Ingram lots of screens with bigger gains. If Murray can have some success with screens he's going to have probably one of his best outliner years and really screw up defenses. If not, he can still do ok with GL runs but there will be a drop in production. I could see a 3 back rotation develop like with AD, Kamara and Ingram. |
