So, he'll take up a spot on the 53 for the opener, which is kind of intriguing.
Anyone know if we needed to make this move in the preseason?

Call me crazy if you want, but I truly believe that if Sheldon hadn't gone down in the Eagles game, the Rams game would have been a completely different animal, totally different ball game, and the whole BS with the no-call and the stupid overtime would never have happened. Sheldon was an intangible part of that defense, that was clearly capable of taking it all the way to the Super Bowl Mothership before he went down so tragically.

Not only should they not rush him back, but he needs to be reminded himself. Let’s not forget how young he is, he may be pressing himself to hurry as well.

I know the kid wants to play, but PLEASE for the love of God, do not rush it

It doesn’t mean he’ll be ready to go week one... maybe not even the first couple games. It just means we expect him back sooner than mid-season. I can’t imagine we would use the roster spot though if he isn’t ready.

I'm pretty sure no one is going to rush him back. If he's off PUP, its because he's probably even ahead of schedule.

Payton has been very conservative of letting players practice over the past couple of years if they were not physically recovered. Even if not in the lineup by week one, Rankins there week three/four is a very tangible asset. Our defense has just kicked up a large notch.

He needed to be activated before opening week, otherwise be wouldn't be eligible to return until week 6.

He isn't necessarily ready to return now.

And I thought the new rules sidelined PUP's until week 8 now.

Rankins doesn't count against the 53-man roster until activated, playing...

Because he's coming off the PUP list before the start of the season, he can come back at any time until Week 7, then he has to be activated by then...

Payton and Rankins both said in Presser that Week 1 is unrealistic, may be a few weeks into the season...

Also, Onyemata won't count against our initial 53 because of his mail order business...

So, we're initially gonna have two extra players on the active roster Week 1, with Onyemata (SUS) and Rankins (PUP) not counting against the 53-man roster...

Not exactly all the way, he still has to build up his conditioning, he has to regain his strength, flexibility, and balance in the injured leg; and there's probably gonna be a little scar tissue that has to be worked away...

Yeah.. it's a move to get him back on the field sooner than later, procedurally for the NFL. He might be ahead of schedule, but still probably not quite ready to start game 1.

I wonder if they've started experimenting with circuit sutures on tendon bone structures. I know that was going to happen eventually and I wonder if that's why his recovery went so well. If that's the case.. Achilles recovery may be a lot better in the future.

We're a very eclectic lunch group (doctor, painter, realtor, mechanic, plumber, a/c tech, florist, wholesaler) that gathers at a local diner...

And the sutures were referenced today in discussing an absent friend who's rehabbing so he'll be healthy, agile enough for marsh walking this duck season - small world...
