Saints can start signing practice squad players

1 Attachment(s)
Starting at noon Sunday, the New Orleans Saints are allowed to begin adding players to their practice squad, a day after the deadline to cut rosters down to 53 players.

https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...ze=1700%2C1133

Practice squads are limited to 10 players.

Check back periodically for updates on whom the Saints signed to their practice squad.

-- No practice squad signings announced yet.

Speaking of WR's, you think Sean Payton still has that "vision" for Cyril Grayson in this offense? With his speed, I think he could be lethal in this offense. Ted Ginn Jr is probably done after this season.

Guess we'll find out soon enough.

You are probably right. Maybe sooner, since Ginn is a hamstring away from retirement. We sign Grayson to the squad.

We signed "EBay" Butler too.

Keep an eye on those two in a year or so.

Butler will progress and Jordan will take Carr's job.

Undrafted rookie from Tulane...

Ozigbo claimed by Jags, that's going to hurt us.

He would have easily filled Ingrams spot for years as a cheap option.

I hope this happens this year...sooner rather than later. When everyone was hurt and Carr got his chance last season he did absolutely nothing. He might be a meeting room darling but if it doesn’t translate to the field and he can’t get any separation then how does he help?

I am surprised nobody picked up Humphrey and Butler. If another team decides to sign them to their active roster do we get a chance to elevate the player first kind of like a RFA?

Nope. All 32 practice squads are a shared NFL resource. Any team can elevate any player on any practice squad to their 53 and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Teams are allowed to sign players from other teams' practice squads, but they don't immediately revert to their practice squad. If a player is signed off another team's practice squad, he has to be elevated to the signing team's 53-man roster for at least three weeks, while also earning three weeks salary.

I only see 2 TE's (Cook, Hill) on the active roster.

Either Mack or Arnold will get promoted for the game vs Texans.

Or when the game plan will call for three tight ends or their particular skill sets for match-ups...

Many here (not you) thought Boston Scott would make Ingram expendable  this time last year too.

Key bullet point here is special teams. Essentially 1/3 an aspect of the game. Dwayne was in on over 40% of special team snaps (he is above avg) & he's experienced. #3 RB is usually a special teams guy.

Think Win now mode.

I'll be honest, I didn't want to lose Ozigbo either.

Thought for sure we'd keep 4 RB's.

Guess we can always snatch him up if the need is there assuming he’s not on their 53.

I like the PS signings but am really disappointed that we didn't get the Wizard of Oz!

Re: Saints can start signing practice squad players

In regards to practice squad players, if anyone wanted to sign a player off the Saints, the Saints have the option of promoting that player to their 53 instead of automatically losing him. As far as keeping just three RB's with Kamara as the lead, I personally believe it signals the Saints are going to be more pass orientated and will run the ball less. I can't see them pounding Kamara and Murray is just above average at best to begin with. A really big step down from Ingram. Seeing as how the Saints are in win now mode, letting Ingram go was a mistake. Are they still good enough? Sure. But, if Kamara gets scuffed up, it's going to be a struggle.

Can you point me to this rule? The best I can find is:
Quote:

Any practice squad player is free to sign to any other team’s active roster at any time during the season, without any compensation to their original team.
from https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comment...ads_explained/

I can't find any language that indicates that the current practice squad team of a player has any options in terms of keeping a player if another team signs them to their active roster.

Totally agree about going a little less balanced although other than Cook I really don’t know that we have any more receiving talent than last year. Add the loss of Ingram’s pass catching ability and we are right back to last year.
At least it doesn’t look like we will have to go out dredging ditches for over the hill players if the injury bug hits.

I'm pretty happy with this practise squad. Wish Ozigbo would have been on it but it is what it is.

Yeah I love what we’ve done. We have some real horses in Butler, Humphrey, Arnold and Mack. Those are all guys who could be on the 53 man roster next year if not sooner.

I’m very intrigued by OT Derrick Kelly. With a little more seasoning he could be our answer to back-up swing tackle.

I really like the John Leglue signing. Versatile & very smart. Like his potential way better than our 2018 4th Rd pick's potential.

And, no, I'm no Tulane homer.
