Re: Another season begins!
I'm just not feeling this season yet; I haven't gotten over last year's loss and I'm not referring to the blown call.
You cannot make three trips into the redzone and come away with only 13 points against a team like the Rams and expect to win. Also, if Brees' pass to MT is 6" higher he walks in for a TD. But I will have the TV and the computer on and be here on the best fansite on the planet Monday night. Geaux Saints! |

Re: Another season begins!
Last years loss to the Ram's was tough, the kind that sticks with a man for ever, the kind a man wants to bury deep down and just let fester... never speaking of it in public again.
Never, ever, again.:) |

Re: Another season begins!
Echoing the sentiments of several here...
Last year's utter screw job has left me empty and convinced the NFL - at least the Roger Goodell version - is scripted just like the WWE. 2009 was magical. 2011 PT gets hit on a questionable head-head and we almost overcome multiple 1st half turnovers to win. We WOULD have won the superbowl that year in a fair league - no doubts. COULDA WOULDA SHOULDA Part 1 2017 We fight back to take lead on Viqueens only to lose on a boneheaded play that looked like someone got a funds transfer from a bookie during the timeout. I think we squeak past Philly on a FG and then win Superbowl #3. COULDA WOULDA SHOULDA Part 2 2018 BLATANT, OBSCENELY OBVIOUS FIXED GAME. Nothing else be said other than the 2018 Patriots could not hold our teams jocks. Superbowl win #4. COULDA WOULDA SHOULDA Part 3 Let's face it guys, when 2019 ends, we'll be adding another chapter to this legacy. The 2019 Saints will win 10-13 games, go DEEP in the playoffs, and be utterly screwed out of ANOTHER championship AGAIN by the NFL and its version of "sports entertainment". We're not a favorite of the most incompetent and arrogant excuse for a sport commissioner in the history of American sports. In fact I'd say he loathes our team. NOLA is not a top 10 market in terms of spending power. And Louisiana - my native state - is nothing more than flyover country to the coastal elites of this so-called sports league. Until this jackass is fired and banned from football we will stay under his thumb. So where does this rant leave me a fan of 40+ years? It leaves me a fan of the Saints who'll drop by occasionally to talk to you great folks and celebrate our team winning (when we are ALLOWED to win). But even that is a bit tainted because it will feel like someone let my guy win the title for this week - knowing that the league heel will steal it away next week... Past that I don't plan to follow the National Fixed League, watch ANY game that the Saints are not playing in, will NOT purchase any of its merchandise or otherwise give a damn about its ever increasingly inferior product. LAST YEAR WAS INEXCUSABLE, AND I'M MAD AS HELL AND NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE... |
Re: Another season begins!
Jags just lost Foles for a long time.
Do you look to trade Bridgewater? I'm really not sure he is the future and will want a biggish deal either way. With the cap hit coming when Brees steps away and Kamara, Lattimore and Ramczyk we will need that money and a Rookie QB opens up a lot of space |

As I've said many times before, if the Saints get rid of TB then Hill stops being the Swiss Army Knife and starts being the clipholder. As Guido pointed out elsewhere, after the next CBA gets done, the salary cap will likely be well over $200 million. There will be plenty of money to pay everyone the Saints want to keep. Finally Brees has been structuring his contracts such that there will be little or no dead money on the books when he retires. SFIAH |
Re: Another season begins!
It's all well and good the CBA pushing the cap up to 200ml. RB and WR are both getting 20ml a year, QB 30ml plus. Salaries are going through the roof at a far higher rate the cap going up.
As it stands we are paying Drew 20ml next year to not be on the roster. Yes that will be changed with a new deal but it will hit at some point. |

Seems like the rams got an extra bonus from salary cap cash . Gazillions flying out there |
Re: Another season begins!
Ummm the cap is only going up 11MM from 2019-2020

Re: Another season begins!
Speaking of the Rams, they did not look that great today. If Carolina had a better offense, they would've won.

People act like if Williams hadn’t screwed the pooch against the Vikings we would have gone on to win the SB. Nobody was beating the Eagles. They had the magic. People act like if it weren’t for the blown call we would have won the SB.... We would have. We got screwed out of that one. I’ve seen girls in gangbangs on Youporn who got less of a shafting than we got. It’s a new year. A win tomorrow would do a lot to get us going in the right direction. Maybe this year if we win the first game we win the last game. |

In 2011, we had one of the 4 worst defenses in the league alongside the 15-1 Packers who were a similar story to us. We got to run up scores and pad offensive stats playing cupcakes most of the year, where we throttled teams at home but looked quite vulnerable on the road (nearly losing to the Jake Locker lead Titans, losing to the Rams and Bucs). Even in the wildcard round, Payton couldn't trust our defense after they gave up 4 TDs and decided to start going for it on 4th down to prevent Detroit from having the ball again. We were out-coached pretty badly late in the game vs the 49ers. We practically got clowned when they ran the Tecmo Super Bowl bootleg QB run play for a score. I don't know how people blame the refs for that game when we had ZERO penalties (As the road team! That is EXTREMELY rare). If anything, we got off on what could've been some roughing the passer calls with late hits on Alex Smith. Refs didn't make us turn the ball over 3 times in the first quarter and immediately get stuck in a 17-0 hole. Refs didn't tell our defense to not bother covering Vernon Davis on the final drive after he had been ripping us up. Even if we do get past the Niners and beat the Giants again, what about the Pats in that SB? Brady had a 5,000 yard passing season that year and we would've faced a healthy Gronk and Hernandez against our trash defense. We couldn't stop Vernon Davis in crunch time, I know damn well the Pats 2 TE set up that year would've been a nightmare for us. Against Minnesota in 2017, all they had to do was stop one play, but it was on us to get stuck in a 17-0 hole early kinda like the 49ers playoff loss. Also wasn't smart of Payton to mock the Vikings with that SKOL chant right before the hail mary. If anything, that just motivated them more to knock us out. Refs or no refs, we've been out-coached in the majority of these playoff losses and that includes last year with some head scratching moments. Had Alshon Jeffrey not dropped that pass and Philly beats us, everyone would be questioning why Payton went for that field goal way out of Lutz's range (and got stuck in a 14-0 hole early with an offense didn't want to run the ball while Brees struggled). For some reason I rarely ever see it talked about how vs the Rams, we didn't bother running the ball on that last drive with the non-call to try and force them to use up their timeouts. And in OT, it was like the Rams knew exactly what we were going to do cause our play calling was so predictable in the 4th quarter. We can correct our wrongs this year and bring it home like we did in 2009. We can run the NFC this year, FootballOutsiders and FiveThirtyEight are high on us for a reason. |
Re: Another season begins!
We're not doing anything out here outside of the script.
You see it tonight - blowing it again (with help). Fixed football league. |
