+1.

Would a try out even hurt?

Just as a reference on WR production on guys not named Michael Thomas after 5 games :

Kirkwood - 0 catches, now on IR
Carr - 0 catches ... 3 years in & he knows the playbook
Jordan Humphrey - 0 catches ** he made plays in pre season on 3rd stringers & guys now working at LA Fitness
Butler - 0 catches

If Dez can prove he's remotely better than any of these guys, sign him.

Teddy has been a good fill in, but I still believe that he is not a good NFL QB. I believe that we actually have an underrated WR corps. Tre'Quan getting hurt did not help, because I truly believe he is a future pro-bowl caliber player. Teddy fixates on Michael Thomas and Kamara. Whereas in the past when Brees did it cause our WRs were lacking a bit, I think Teddy does it now because he is horrible/slow at going through his progressions and tends to lock in on targets. Go back and watch some film on Teddy and pay attention to his eyes..... just incredibly slow and indecisive. Teddy is getting by right now cause we have a talented roster that has really stepped it up to compensate for Brees being out . If the roster was weaker and we would be racking up the Ls every week right now. I know we aren't going to change out QBs cause we are undefeated right now with Teddy, but I still think Taysom would have been the better option.

Wouldn't hurt to look, but the videos weren't flattering - his route break s lacked suddenness, crispness...

Achilles tears use to be a death sentence to NFL careers, his situation - age, position, specific injury, likely will require more work...

Wish him well in his recovery, maybe by the time he gets a look with the team, his recovery will have progressed and he will have regained more explosiveness...

I have a slightly different angle, noticed it when looking up CGM stats...

These are Thomas's Targets by week
W1 - 13
W2 - 13
W3 - 7
W4 - 9
W5 - 13

Next highest is Ginn
W1 - 7
W2 - 0
W3 - 5
W4 - 5
W5 - 2

Next Smith
W1 - 2
W2 - 3
W3 -
W4 -
W5 - 0

Harris
W1 - 0
W2 - 1
W3 - 0
W4 - 0
W5 - 0

Humphry
W1 - 0
W2 - 1
W3 - 0
W4 - 0
W5 -

Everyone else has 0 Targets and you have no chance to catch what isn't thrown to you.

Are we to expect that only Ginn/CGM can get open?

Drew is known for spreading the ball, TB isnt. Personally, I am going to wait until Drew is back before I pass judgement on WRs that arent having balls thrown at them.

^^ at some point in the season, it will catch up with you by not having a legit #2 WR who can create separation/keep the chains moving on 3rd and long.

I hope those guys mentioned in my earlier post prove me wrong. I could be completely inaccurate here but I don't believe good defensive coordinators are losing any rest game planning for Austin Carr. There is no depth on the roster right now.

Lord help us if Thomas ever gets dinged up.

Agreed. Payton saw something in Tre'Quan in the third round and Payton has stayed the course with Ted Ginn, despite publicly criticizing his route running...

But signing another injured, over-the-hill bad option (Dez Bryant) to replace a poor-performing over-the-hill option (Ted Ginn) seems about as productive as two monkeys f*cking a basketball...

This is where I hammer my point that Terry Fontenot needs to geaux and we should have identified a better veteran option to pair as a contingency with Tre'Quan Smith...

While I love out the box thinking and really liked the idea of using the Tight End as a complementary option to @CantGuardMike, the Jared Cook signing at this point has been uneventful and may be consequential...

Label me a Dez hater, or neaux, there's nothing I've seen in those clips to move me from my position that'd he bring his early career explosiveness that would be better than what we have now...

This situation that is limiting the offense is another off-season failure and will likely result in Payton and Mickster overpaying, again, for someone like an A.J. Green...

Since the Cowboys aren't running away with the NFC East, Philly's still in it so Goedert is off the table. Miami isn't going to trade rookie contracts so Gesicki isn't an option. Humpty Dumpty is tougher than the Bengals' Tyler Eifert...

Not a lot of options with the deadline approaching...

SP evidently still doesn't like LSU players... whereTF is Grayson? At least he scares people with his speed.

LMAO .. nice one JP ;).

Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders and AJ Green are open options.

FWIW, Trequan was on that Wednesday injury report. Possibly one less WR option heading into Sunday's game against the Jags :brood:.

Is it safe to assume that if Thomas and Kamara are on the field they are your primary coverage concern? Double Thomas, next best on Kamara...

Here is my glaring question to the whole crowd.. Same receivers as last year and didnt need a #2. We won a Super Bowl in 2009 without what was considered a #1WR or a legit #2..

I am not entirely convinced WR is where our problem is...

YES a #2 would be fantastic! Just see that we have other things going on. For instance, not being able to protect our QB so that he can make use of a #2:bng:

Precisely why going with a cheaper more hungry WR may have been a better move than keeping Ginn or GlassHaus Kirkwood.

Colston, Henderson, Moore, B Meachem & Shockey were threats at the wide out position & a huge reason why we were 2009 juggernauts.

2019 #3, 4 WR guys scare no one.

Pass. Wish him well. Jerry Rice is still in great shape but his time as a NFL WR has long passed. Just like Bryant's.

Not in 2009 brother. Colston was in his 4th year and had just come off starting only 6 games in 2008 and a sleeper, Lance Moore only played 1/2 the 2009 season, Hendersons speed was always a concern but not on anyones radar as anythong other than a one trick pony (deep threat).

2009 was Drew's lowest passing season in a decade 2006-2016 4,388

I am pretty sure no.
Kirkwood had 21 targets in the last 8 games with Drew.
Gin had 30 targets in 5 games
Smith had 44 targets
Carr - 14
Meridith - 10

Before you guess at 2017
Ginn-70
Coleman - 37
Snead 16
Lewis 15

Teddy is not Drew, they dont play the same, have the same game plan, self confidence, confidence in their their receivers... yet people expect things to be the same.

Kirkwood (hammy pull pre game vs Rams), Tre'quan (rolled ankle) & Carr ...

All have been underwhelming at WR.

I'm really concerned about T Smith long term. He has a slim frame & I question the conditioning. Based on yesterday's injury report (DNP), it's looking like he won't be ready to go on Sunday.

Re: Dez Bryant looking like a beast in his workout videos ahead of NFL return

We've got the money to sign a player before the trade deadline I think. There are options out there but we are trying hard to develop in house cheap talent.

Also, I totally agree about Fontenot. His department has been hit or miss since his arrival. Unfortunately, it's mostly miss though. He gets it right once in a while but he has brought in some real head scratchers. Our college scouting department is top notch and we need the same impact from our free agency signings which sadly have been disappointing overall.

Except for pro bowl caliber LB Damario Davis

Re: Dez Bryant looking like a beast in his workout videos ahead of NFL return

How come no other team wants Dez if he's so great? That's the question I always bring up when our fan base gets excited over him.

Dallas passed on bringing him back and later had to trade to get Amari Cooper when they needed a WR. Dak Prescott had the highest INT percentage targeting a receiver in 2017 when he was throwing to Dez. The highest of any QB to WR and that was the real reason he burnt himself out there, besides his big mouth.

As I said last year; I worry about Brees throwing to him and he either drops the ball, or it bounces out of his hands for an INT. That's what happened constantly in his last year in Dallas. Prescott had just 4 INTs in his rookie season; 3 of those were balls intended for Dez. Seriously, pull some tape on the 2017 Cowboys offense and see how ineffective he truly was. Dez has been overrated his entire career all due to being drafted by Dallas in the first place. There is a reason the other 31 teams don't want him. For crying out loud, the Patriots of all teams would've done something with him by now. They need WRs too.

Now that there, I have a problem with...

Knew we didn't have a real GM much less one that had an eye for talent when Mickster rubberstamped Payton's selection of Meachem with a first round pick...

Robert Meachem, a wide receiver, who was out-of-f*cking-shape when he showed up at rookie camp...

Oh, I knew then, we'd have some problems scouting and identifying draft candidates...

If Tre-Quan is out of shape, not motivated, with all the resources in kinesiology and nutrition that the NFL can afford and does provide...

I mean WTF?!? How freaking lazy and dumb must you be???
