I love these ugly wins
Last year, we beat Carolina 13-8. A real defensive slugfest and one of the few games in the past decade where the defense carried a struggling offense.
This year, the 12-10 win over Dallas and this 12-9 win are special for the same reason. Defense coming out to play in the spirit of the old DOME PATROL days and not having to ask a backup QB to put up an elite stat line. Seriously guys, stop worrying and enjoy these ugly wins. These are special wins cause we usually don't win when we fail to score 17 points or more. If we make the #1 or #2 seed, we'll look back at these hard fought, grind-out games and know they were the ones that truly mattered to help make that playoff push. |

Ugly wins need love too. Great job guys.

If you're looking for beautiful losses, go see the Falcons. They have plenty of 'em this year.

Re: I love these ugly wins
No such thing as an ugly win. EVERY win in the NFL is beautiful. Don't care if the Saints win by 26, 4 or 1. Still a win.
I will take 3 point W's all the way to the SB. Do not give a two ****s. It's a team effort. All those guys made it happen. Brees if great but so what. He can't help us right now or next week and he is only one player. We got other players. |

I love these wins. Fixed it for ya.

Re: I love these ugly wins
College football has made me really like and appreciate a good defense. I get so frustrated watching college teams, with the lead in the 4th quarter, snapping the ball and running "tempo" with 15 seconds left on the play clock. It more often than not comes back to bite them. Stupid football.

The best part of this season is that it demonstrates that there will be life after Brees. |
Re: I love these ugly wins
AMEN!
I am SO GLAD Cha Ching mentioned the DOME PATROL, because for us old timers, this is EXACTLY what those games used to feel like -- this used to be the normal, ALL THE FLIPPING TIME! I would "like" his post a dozen times, if I could. I keep telling people, stop freaking out and panicking or worrying over Teddy! Teddy is gonna do whatever Teddy is gonna do....Root for the defense with all your heart, because these guys deserve it. It's like this -- if Bobby Hebert or John Fourcade can string together a couple of first downs, if we get the offense past the helmet in the middle of the field, onto the other team's side, eventually Morten Andersen will trot out there and kick a few field goals, and if we're lucky, our defense will keep their offense out of the end zone all day, and we'll be good! In a way, we've been spoiled as fans, by years of feasting on easy touchdowns that Drew hands out like they were Halloween candy. Now that touchdowns are HARD to get, it's a different vibe. I get why people are uncomfortable. Just RELAX and let the defense do their thing! Payton said, the defense could have played 8 quarters against the Jaguars yesterday, and he didn't think the Jaguars would have scored a touchdown. Outstanding. I saw it too, and I agree completely! Repeating what the Cha Ching said -- best post I've seen here in a long time. STOP WORRYING AND ENJOY THE UGLY WINS! |
