HAZ WANTS EXTENSION NOW



A league source tells us that Saints coach Jim Haslett wants to hammer out a contract extension with the team before the 2005 season begins.



The Saints, on the other hand, prefer to take a wait-and-see approach on Haslett's status beyond the coming season.



There's speculation in league circles that Haslett might tell the team that there will be no discussions until after the season if an extension isn't in place before the September 11 opener. In so doing, however, Haslett would be taking a big risk. If the team starts strong, the powers-that-be might choose to re-up the head coach. If he refuses and the team thereafter goes into the tank, he might find himself out in the cold come 2006.

Players first... Deuce, Bentley, Mike ..... Pookie, Dopey, Jim, Billy, Brad ..... waterboy ..... mascot.... receptionist ..... janitors ..... then Haslett.

Another bad season with Haslett = poof. Let's see how he does this season and whether or not he "earns" a contract extension. Another 8-8 season does not and will not warrant an extension.

Screw that extension. Excuse me Haz, but I believe you are the only coach in the NFL who has not made the playoffs for four straight years and still has a job. If not the only one, one of very very few. Suck it up, take this team somewhere, and then get yours. Where is the Haz signed a contract he should honor it crowd? 8)

Hasbeen gets a long term contract .

The coaching drone continues to try and find his way in the dark .......

Yeah - Venturi = Guaranteed Change. Haz = More of the Same.

What I have been hearing is that the Saints are waiting this out to see how the season goes... Someone they would like to bring in could be Jeff Fisher.

He should have signed it when it was initially offered since it was absurd that he was offered one after last season. Get us to the playoffs and be at least competitive and we'll see abut your extension.

Venturi was head coach for a bit a couple of years ago. I welcomed the Mike Ditka era with open arms.

I tend to think 8-8 is competitive... I mean we had worse... way worse, lol. I am on the fence on this one. I don't think he is forcing the Saints hand, its a good move contract wise to start negociating now if you want a long term deal on paper now, well its best for the Saints that is. What is bad for the Saints is waiting til the end of the season and get gets up in the playoffs, lets say even deep in the Playoffs its going to cost the Saints BIG bucks. I like where we are sitting so for going into the season so its not a bad idea to inking him to a deal now.

Maybe he'll hold out... LMAO. I don't wish for this because then we'll be looking at Venturi UGH...

I like Haslett. He coaches like I would coach. The only problem I had with him is that he should have demoted the co-ordinators quicker. He was allowing them to do their job without his interference and that was a bad decision. I think if the guy used the control he has we would definately go far. We'll just have to wait and see what happens this year. I agree that we should wait until the end of this coming season to decide whether or not Haslett's contract should be extended.

That will cost the Saints BIG BUCKS if you wait til the end of the season and Has knows this... you either do it now or when the end of the season comes and he has the team in the NFC game... he is going to cost us major bank.
