Can't we treat it like a preseason game?

Give him a couple of series...

Or not. I'm not him. I don't know how is thumb is...

Do what's best for the team, not Drew. (Not badmouthing Drew. Please. I love the guy...)

I don't think we should start Brees at all.

We're 5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater, stick with him; let Brees along with the other missing guys get healthy and come back after the bye.

He's playing.
It is what it is.

Look at it this way ... Brees has played his entire career without getting hit in the precise manner which could cause this injury. He has an internal brace screwed into his bones to prevent the same from happening again. He will be wearing an external sling to further protect the thumb. If the odds that a reinjury could occur are less than the odds of our losing without him to the Cardinals then he should absolutely play.

I really don't think the extremely remote chance of reinjury plays a part in the decision as far as the team is concerned. I think they would be far more concerned with his effectiveness due to his lack of playing time. Teddy has done a commendable job, but he has repeatedly missed easy throws in every game. Fortunately none of them have come back to bite us. If Brees can show he is more effective in practice this week then he will play. I really think it is as simple as that.

I suspect that there is a certain percentage of people wanting to afford Teddy one more week to dig himself out of the "game manager" label. Six games wasn't enough.....

Who knows. It could be a ruse. Arizona can't be happy about preparing for two different playing styles. It's still not confirmed he will play and he has not had full practices to my knowledge. Without a full practice I don't see it.

From what I have heard Drew gets in a full practice before anyone else even parks at the facility lol.

I tape every game to watch it again and again. Without Drew the team just doesn't have the same appeal to make me watch it several times. Once or twice is enough. It's time to start him....so I can watch the same game repeatedly without losing my intensity.

He's Drew Brees. If he's good to go, you start him.

I find this take interesting on two levels -
1. If you didn't see an upwards progression, an increase in comfort and proficiency in our offense by Teddy from game to game, then there's probably no amount of wins/TD's/completion %, et cetera that is going to change your minds, so whatever.
2. It seems as though some feel that a compliment to Teddy is a detraction to Drew, which I also don't get, but again whatever.

I suspect there is a lot of Coach's smoke blowing out of SP's Office, this is all tactical.
For us tomorrow when the smoke clears in the Dome the only thing we know is #5 or #9 will be chucking the ball.

This right here.

Besides the game when Drew got injured we are undefeated with Teddy Two Gloves. Then next two games are against a Cardinals team that's the WORST defense in the league and the Falcons are on a downward spiral and self destruction as we speak. The risk of Drew getting injured again is too great to take imo. Start Teddy, keep winning, and save Drew for the playoffs.

Re: SPEAK for YOURSELF | Would it be a mistake for Saints to play Brees this week?

Everyone keeps talking about how frail Brees is, since when has Teddy Bridgewater suddenly become the model of consistent health?

Re: SPEAK for YOURSELF | Would it be a mistake for Saints to play Brees this week?

I really don't see Brees in any more danger of getting injured this week as any other. The internal brace in his hand does not allow the repaired ligament to be stretched as it was on the fluke hit by Donald. Brees has attempted well over 10,000 passes in his career and that was the only time he had ever had his thumb bent back in that manner.

The Cardinals have won three straight games and Atlanta is still a dangerous team. The Saints cannot afford to drop a single game if they want to have home field advantage all the way to the Super Bowl. I would much rather Brees have a game under his belt before facing the Falcons.

It is quite interesting to try and peal all the layers back and see what the drivers are isn't it?

What does it boil down to? If a person doesn't have a vested interest in Teddy Bridgewater than the discussion should be nothing more than what generally goes on when a team clenches a playoff birth before week 16.. Sit or play starters.

If you have a vested interest in Drew then the internet has been scoured for some hint of whether there is a danger to starting him today... Doesn't seem there is.

I have said neither and the decision is where it should be, with those that know.

Now there is a ton of rationalization going on and I hear a ton of "we have a bye and the next team isnt that good".. Anyone ever told Manning, Brady, Pick a franchise QB "Hey bud, we have a bye and a crappy team after that, why dont you just ride the bench since we dont feel we need you"...

My favorite rationalization is about Teddy though 'he hasn't screwed up, he is our future'..

Re: SPEAK for YOURSELF | Would it be a mistake for Saints to play Brees this week?

I am jumping in late.
I have not been posting much.
I want to make several points.

Bree’s is ready to go. GREAT. He can assist Bridgewater and even Hill from the sidelines. Be suited up for just in case .
Bridewater , give him his props, for getting the hotvseat following a G.O.A.T. Brees. If Teddy B had not made these wins, people would have had him run out of town.

It was Bridgewater and team. Give Bridgewater his props.
However, is it the talent or the teacher to mold and make that talent?
We fans have been scared to death of Brees getting injured and he will have to retire one day.
Well, he got injured.
Coach SeanP and his staff , the teachers of the talent, still made it happen. Redirect. Use the talent you have and not what you had.
I am not taking anything away from Bridgewater and team. A W is a W is a W and an L is an L. 5 straight wins.
Bridgewater stepped up under lots of pressure.

Last thing, Brees is ready to go and he can go suit up and stand up on the sidelines.
AZ Cards have had 3-4 straight wins, I know. I think Bridgewater and team can pull a W today.
Next week is Bye Week.
Give Brees 2 more weeks.
NFL and the schedule works out good for Saints this year with Brees having had an injury.
THEN BRING Brees back for after ByeWeek to knock out those back to back , what 3-4 DIVISIONAL GAMES. MUST WINS. Bring Brees back to knock out the rest of this seasons .

My opinion anyway, but Brees is starting so .....

Just a fan since 67 but I just don’t see TB as the heir apparent in a SP offense.

Ok. Brees got his real practice in. 7-1 Saints.
At home, Superdome.
W today.

Saints, omg.

I don't either and I do not think that, after having had Brees for over a decade, the fanbase of Sean Payton would settle for a QB who's known for not screwing up. lol

Teddy is the stone if Brees goes down, Hill may have a shot at developing into what Payton proclaims.

Re: SPEAK for YOURSELF | Would it be a mistake for Saints to play Brees this week?

By the time Brees retires and retires from the Saints, FACT, Bridgewater and Hill will be long gone.

Bridgewater is not the future of Saints and 3rd string about , Hill, certainly is not.

Bridgewater came in following a G.O.A.T. who is still playing, gosh only out a bit with an injury.
Team stepped up with Bridewater fir 5 straight wins. What more do want?

Hill is a little of this, that and the other. Jack of all trades out there.
He did his duty.

Brees is back.
Bye Week.
Then Brees and Saints have 4 straight MUST WINS DIVISIONAL GAMES.
Brees and team have rest of the season second rounds of some of divisional games.

Good feeling that if Saints arecway ahead, feel comfortable to put Teddy B in there at 4 th qrtr.
