Saints Hall of Fame adding Reggie Bush, Marques Colston before Cardinals game

The New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame will induct two new members on Sunday, Oct. 27: former Saints running back Reggie Bush and wide receiver Marques Colston, each of whom helped win Super Bowl XLIV. They will join their former teammates including Pierre Thomas, Deuce McAllister, Lance Moore, Jonathan Vilma, Carl Nicks, and the late Will Smith, who was named to the Saints Ring of Honor earlier this year.

Bush and Colston will be formally inducted during the annual Saints Hall of Fame Gala on Saturday, Oct. 26. Fans interested in attending can find details for the event by following this link.

The Saints Hall of Fame Museum will hold an autograph session for fans to meet both Bush and Colston before Sunday’s game with the Arizona Cardinals. This event will end quickly at 11:15 a.m. CT., so those who would wish to attend should plan ahead.

Both players were drafted by the Saints back in 2006; Bush was the team’s first draft choice, and Colston their last. Bush was a much-lauded prospect out of USC, a football powerhouse, while Colston came out of Hofstra, a small school that folded its football program a few years later. Their backgrounds were vastly different but both players proved to be invaluable pickups, doing their part to help bring New Orleans its first Lombardi Trophy.

Well deserved for both these players! I still wish Colstons body could've held up for one more season so he would reach that 10 000yd mark.

Nothing against Reggie, I like him.. but he spent less than 1/2 his career with the Saints and more than 52 people helped win a Super Bowl in 2009.

Colston is a gimme.

That leap in today's NFL would take 15 minutes of review time and they still wouldn't get the call right.

I think Bush was an important player, who brought credibility to a team that was desperately needing it.

Also, he allowed Payton to be Payton with all the different ways he orchestrated the ball to end up in Bush's hands.

Lastly, he brought the bat to the field - case closed.

Pierre Thomas is one of my all time favorite Saints!

Gimme PT23 over Reggie any day. PT23 was much more important to our success. Watch the SuperBowl highlights, Pierre was breaking 3 tackles per run.

Maybe one or two players wore the Fleur-de-Lis with as much class as Marques Colston...

Bush was a huge disappointment considering where he was drafted.

For most of his time here, he was completely outshined by Pierre Thomas who became the jack of all trades RB during those years.

I have always felt like Kamara became everything we hoped and wished Bush would've been. I just remember being overly ecstatic and super excited when we drafted Bush and then he never lived up to any of those expectations. He had some great punt returns and screen passes that went distances, but Pierre Thomas was the work horse during that time.

Thomas also had the first touchdown over the Vikings in the NFCCG. It came on a third down, and he brushed passed multiple tacklers, taking it to the house.

Thomas was our jack of all trades RB; he did everything - runs, screens, blocking, and something he gets no credit for - DID NOT FUMBLE. That fumble in the 2011 playoff game at SF was only his second fumble in 3 years.

Bush never lived up to his hype or expectations from where he was drafted in the first round. If he didn't have a ring and that one single 1,000 yard rushing season in Miami, he would be topping lists of draft busts for the previous decade.

Thomas was the X factor vs the Colts. The Colts defense in 2009 (as well as the years before, even when Tony Dungy coached them) had a major issue with shifty RBs and teams that ran them through screen plays.

This is pretty much the simplest explanation why the Chargers always embarrassed them back in the day including both playoff losses the Colts endured in 2008 and 2007. They would use Tomlinson and Sproles with screen passes and gash that defense to pieces. The Patriots used to be able to shred that defense too when they had Corey Dillon. The Colts didn't start to beat the Pats during that time frame until after they lost Dillon and even then, the Pats resumed to beating them after 2006.

IMO I have always believed that the Colts in 2009 caught a huge break by avoiding the Chargers in the playoffs, whom I think would've beat them. But we were built similar to the Chargers and were able to use Thomas the way they would Sproles, and the Colts ended up paying the price for it.

For a couple of seasons I do recall PT getting it done and Reggie scrambelomg sideline time sideline struggling to run down field.

He still spent less than 1/2 his career as a Saint regardless of the reason.

Colston was the poster a child for humbly getting it done with character.

They were ALL important pieces of the Payton Phoenix that rose from the ashes of the post Katrina - Haslett era.

Even though we are in the midst of several winning seasons, I do miss having those players on our team.

The consummate professionals like PT, Lance Moore, Devery Henderson, Colston, Strief, Greer and Vilma.

Probably a ton more that I've missed from the list, just loved having those guys on our team.

Seems like not all that long ago Colston was wowing us all in pre-season. That was my first live Saints game, at Chiefs pre-season.
