PFW Reports
New Orleans
The Saints raised more than a few eyebrows on the second day of the draft when they selected former Florida State QB Adrian McPherson in the fifth round. McPherson, who has had some run-ins with the law and got kicked out of Florida State as a result, has the potential to be a special player, and sources say the team will give him every opportunity to win a spot on the roster. Head coach Jim Haslett has been making a concerted effort to clean up the locker room over the past couple of years, and at first glance McPherson’s history would seem to be troubling, at best. But sources say McPherson has matured and is trying to put his past behind him, and the Saints view McPherson as low-risk because he will only be battling for the No. 3 QB job. The Saints went with only two quarterbacks on the roster for most of last season, but we hear that McPherson’s skills have impressed the coaching staff so much that they are willing to use a roster spot on a No. 3 QB if necessary. |
