I'd attribute that more to a string of weeks with most of our skill position starters out. Yet weve still found ways to win - that's the mark of a good team.

Frankly, when Brees went down, I never thought we'd be 7-1 when he came back. I'd accepted that 3-3 whilst he was out would be good enough.

I kept hearing how we needed a defense that was middle of the road or better and we could win a Super bowl. Well, we've got one, so go get another Lombardi or two.

Yeah I really think that's more a product of Brees, Kamara, Smith, Cook, etc. all being out yet we still managed to win ball games. If we start playing up to our capabilities and stay healthy, that number will rise.

We’ll get there. This Brees/Payton offense has finished outside the top 5 twice.
With the lowest finish last season when we finished 8th.

Well, it all starts up front.

Rankins, Edwards, Malcolm, David O ... consistently getting it done. This was a strong run D last year and it's even better in 2019.

DD, Klein are cleaning up plays in the middle too.

Then you factor in how well Eli, Marcus/Bell and Latt have looked last month on the back end. Then add in Mr. Rookie CGJ who looks the part and is gaining confidence each week in the slot. Team effort and they are still improving.

They are hungry.

And the first two games were poor defense. Then we had at least two more where we we so far ahead they gave up garbage yards and point. My view. Top 2 or 3.

We have a good problem on defense. At this point it would be a hard decision picking our defensive MVP. I don’t really see any weaknesses.
Apple isn’t getting thrown at, Latt locking em down, Bell is the Taysom of the defense, CGJ making crazy splash plays, LB’s cleaning up the garbage and the ENTIRE dline is stout.

It will get there over time now that the team is getting healthy again.

In a weird way, this almost feels like karmic justice for us having top 5 offenses year in and year out and bottom 4 defenses. Now we have top 5 defense and the offense can just be average and it's OK.

Defense wins championships at the end of the day.
