USA Today/Saints Wire: Saints snap counts, Week 11: Was Marcus Davenport demoted?

Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: Saints snap counts, Week 11: Was Marcus Davenport demoted?

Davenport is invisible near enough every game day, yet fans constantly give him a free pass. As soon as Trey comes in, he immediately beats the guy Davenport was against for a near sack.

Maxx Crosby of the Raiders, a 4th round pick this year is only 1 sack shy of Davenports total in 2 years.

When a guy we traded a first round pick or two to get, is getting less snaps and getting outplayed by a 6th rounder in T-rex, something is definitely wrong.

Benching can bring out the best in a player. Let’s see how he responds.

I see your point but T-rex was drafted with our 3rd pick in the 3rd after Kamara and Anzalone

Just as disappointing if he is.

I bet some of you Were on Marcus Williams is trash train, the Malcolm Jenkins is trash train, But couldn't wait for Paul Krueger and Rishard Matthews. Players develop differently.....Trey is finally coming into his own and it's his third year he should be ahead of Davenport. Sacks aren't the only signs of a good pass rusher. If he's a bust then it is what it is. But Trey isn't the answer either they'll be drafting another PR if they feel like Davenport isn't what they thought he could be

It's all up e Marcus one thing for sure is he needs to WATCH tape on himself and the elite of the elite Pass Rushers.... Because what ever is being taught to him isn't sticking......he should have at least 10 sacks right now. Reggie White LT Von Miller Cameron Jordan Julius Peppers.....

His 1st step is usually slow...he who hesitates is lost. The only time I've seen him quick is on 3rd & really long where everybody knows it's a pass.

Teams have run to his side on passing downs or the QB escapes for big runs on his side...recent example was the 23 yd by Winston. He's pushed the pocket but loses contain which has burned us.

He needs more film work. He needs to study more.

There is an article out from NOLA.com and Sean Payton provides good perspective on MD's minimal snap count on Sunday's game vs Tampa.

Why the Saints defensive snap counts looked different than usual against Buccaneers

Davenport and Hendrickson play different roles in the defensive scheme.

Marcus D could turn into Bruce Smith/Julius Peppers and some fans would find a reason to link what the Saints gave up to get him .

I trust the Saints scouting dept/front office brass on drafting and developing talent. They are "hitting" a lot more than missing over the last 3 years.

David O \ Vonn Bell
AK
Chauncey G Johnson \ Erik "the real deal" McCoy (impact players as ROOKIES)
Davenport

Trust and believe.

Don't care how Payton spins it, you spent that much draft capital on a guy that's not on the field as much as Cam Jordan (Cam cost one first round pick) then Payton's draft management should be questioned...

Davenport's responsibility is to be in the best shape he can be, be fully prepared in film study and game-specific scheme for that week, and play 100% to his abilities...

The fact that Payton stupidly overspent on the draft pick is not on Davenport, nor should it be, it's on Payton...

That said, I'd like to see more of the Davenport that flashed earlier in the season, but he's only had one game where he saw 50+ snaps - one; and that has to be concerning for all who love the Saints...

Watch that play again. I believe it was a stunt where Davenport came from the end to the middle and Rankins went outside and he didn't go wide enough. Pretty sure this is the same play.

Dizzle, Hendrickson was drafted in the third round, but it's of little consequence...

Maybe I'm getting older, maybe, just maybe, a little wiser, but don't hold where a guy is was drafted against him...

Be p*ssed at your team, the GM, the HC who overspent draft capital to acquire him...

Davenport's responsibility is to be at work/meetings on time, in-shape, and to give max effort toward team success...

I'm just not gonna be p/o'd at Davenport for what it took to get him, only if he doesn't do those things mentioned...

While I've been in the minority, it was another in all-too-many draft gaffes by Sean Payton who's as good as he is in offensive scheming, he's that terrible in personnel management...

Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: Saints snap counts, Week 11: Was Marcus Davenport demoted?

Curious to see if the upward trend in snap counts continues with Kiko Alonso...

Hated losing Vince Biegel, but a good swap as Alonso is more versatile, even if he costs us a little more...
