Did Demario Davis Spare Matt Ryan?

I noticed a play near the end of the game. Demario Davis went down in the pocket and got a hold of Matt Ryans leg and held it until Ryan threw an incomplete pass. Correct me if I am wrong but Davis could easily and legally have rolled while holding Ryans foot or ankle and finished the play faster, with serious injury risk to Ryan’s career. Many QBs would just go down or throw faster in that situation to avoid the injury risk but Ryan delayed, accepted the risk, and still Davis did not roll. Falcons fans like to imagine the Saints are a dirty team, but we just had Ryans fate in our hands and spared him.

Davis could have easily mangled Ryan’s leg

Some things are more important than football

If I could read DeMario’s mind, he was probably thinking- would someone hurry up and hit this MF already-.

I was watching that, and was immediately waiting for the alligator death roll, but it never happened.

I thought so too. DD is a strong guy and could have easily twisted Matty's leg like a alligator if he wanted to.

That's what I was thinking. He was probably sure someone was about to hit him.

Probably didn’t want to get flagged so he just stopped.

I thought DeMario was waiting on a whistle. I'm not sure what qualifies as "in the grasp" in order for the refs to blow the play dead. Does the QB have to be wrapped up around the torso? If the League is serious about protecting the QB then that play should've been blown dead. Some ******* like Ndamukong Suh would not have stopped the pursuit of bringing Ryan down where DeMario stopped.

^^^ Tuttle had better hands than Ginn & Tre last night. One of more acrobatic catches I've seen this year. Tuttle weighs over 300 lbs and if not for that angle, he would have out ran Matt to the end zone.

That stiff arm was vicious. Fantastic play.

I didn't have him on my radar @ camp but he is turning into a very promising (12 tackles for 2019) player. Could become a undrafted gem in a year or two. We have some legit D line players in New Orleans + coach Ryan Nielsen is bringing out the best in each of them.

It’s very encouraging with Onyemata and Rankins coming up on expiring contracts.

I'd like your input here XVI.

What do you do with those two ? My fear is that if Shimmy Rankins leaves, dude ends up a monster else where. IMO he's not playing at 100% + he missed a lot of training camp.

I wouldn't allow Onyemata to walk. He's become progressively better each year.

This and waiting for a whistle. When you have someone wrapped and you know it’s that wrap that can’t be broken, players rarely chance anything that could jeopardize that.

There are a few key plays in a game where someone has the premeditation to hit or hurt someone.

Everything is bang bang bang.... when you see poor tackling it’s not that they don’t know the proper technique it’s that they haven’t done it enough for it to be second nature. Great tacklers rarely screw up because the don’t think much about it, it’s just reaction.

It’s been said before and rarely resonated but it’s very accurate. After the snap, Football is a game of fractional reaction times and those that have to think look and are just slow.

We have to be very smart to make sound economical decisions while not messing up the chemistry of the team. Rankins will play under the 5th year option in 2020, while Malcom Brown and Shy Tuttle are under contract for two more seasons. I like Onyemata but we’re loaded at the position. I would let him walk.

Part of being a team that nails it in the draft and in the evaluation of UDFA’s is being able to let guys go and have players waiting to seamlessly slide right in to their spot.

I'm glad Davis didn't do anything dirty there like twisting his ankle. We're not about that stuff.

Thought it was quick intelligent play from Davis. If he rolls him, or tries to climb his legs for the tackle you know they're throwing a flag the way the refs have officiated the Saints this year. Thought this was clever, hold him in the pocket, mess his feet up so he could throw unhindered and keep him rooted for another player to get the sack

In all honesty he was probably just trying to hold onto Matt any way he could.
