NFL Divisions Need Realignment

The NFL will never move Dallas out of the NFC East.

Meh, compared to old insanity of having the Phoenix Cardinals in the NFC East and the Falcons in the NFC West, today is nothing.

I like it. Should’ve happened years ago. Would’ve made the AFC East more competitive and the NFC south would be a more talked about div adding the Cowboys.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to throw Tampa in the AFC and Jacksonville in the NFC south? Tampa and Miami could be the in state rivals.
**** Florida has too many teams anyway. Just eliminate Tampa altogether and use the stadium as a garbage dump.
I do like the idea but it makes too much sense .

Re: NFL Divisions Need Realignment

They need to make the teams per division larger...why does the league with the most teams play in only 4 team divisions? For example, NHL has 1 less team than NFL, but only has 4 divisions (and will probably stay at 4 when Seattle enters in a couple years).

I get how the #'s balance out perfectly which is probably the reason..but I'd rather four, 5 team divisions and a couple 6 teamers to keep the division champion calibre a little more respectable.

Re: NFL Divisions Need Realignment

I debated this on yahoo recently and they need to go back to 3 division conferences.

The problem why the division realignment never worked back in 01 was they wanted to keep some teams together due to being big rivals, one of the biggest was the NFC East, hence Dallas being more South or West than East geographically. They did the same with the AFC East 3 of the 4 teams is driving distance from each other, Miami sets far south, maybe east coast, but far south and far away Patriots, Bills, and Jets.

I think this mess is more the reason why the Rams went back to L.A. to, they were way out halfway across the country from all other NFC West rivals, not just trying to boost the L.A. market which they were part of before.

You could shuffle teams from the AFC to the NFC and vice versa, but 4 teams in each division is perfect.

I agree. Like the 4 game system. Don’t want to see us play the same teams any more than I see them now. Just realign the whole NFL and break it up based on location. Do whatever you can to keep the NFC and AFC separated as they are now but with a little tweaking.

Re: NFL Divisions Need Realignment

If you're going to realign, just have two groupings, AFC and NFC.

Best records win out, including head to head matchups. Rivalries remain and new ones develop. And the schedule could be more interesting since it all likelihood, the teams don't play each other twice... unless they meet in the playoffs.

I think that would take the fun out of it.

Someone somewhere will spend more time on the road and God forbid it's Dallas!

Re: NFL Divisions Need Realignment

Just change the name of the divisions if everyone is hung up on geography.
Does the distance in the Dallas-Wash and Dallas-Phil rivalries hurt the rivalry? No.
Are Dallas and Houston big rivals for us? Does Atl care about the four teams closer to them than us?
It ain't broke, so...

Like everyone has mostly stated, the NFC east rivals are too big. Especially since that the division is the only one in which all teams have at least 1 SB.

Three teams will be moving making locale division reassignment premature:
  • Raiders are already scheduled to move to Las Vegas

  • Chargers are in an untenable stadium situation in Los Angeles

  • Jaguars are rumoured as the London relocation candidate

I just stop the AFC and NFC playing each other in the season. 16 teams per conference, 16 conference games. Best 6 records make the playoffs. Play one year at home, next on the road. If you want to separate into divisions fine

Dude, Tampa Bay Bucs have the No. 12 television Market in the country!

New Orleans is only 50th, and overall the smallest...

Green Bay's market is smaller than New Orleans, but Milwaukee-Green Bay, their actual TV market, is No. 20...

But I do like the idea of moving Miami to the AFC South, moving the Colts to the AFC North, and the Ravens to the AFC East; only rivalry affected is the Steelers-Ravens, but there's still Steelers-Browns, so no biggie...

Always thought Dallas should've been moved the the NFC South with Carolina taking its spot in the NFC East, but NFL didn't want to lose the Cowboys-Redskins rivalry, but that is practically dead now...

Speaking of, The Best Rivalries in the NFL:

  • Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers

  • New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons

  • San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams

  • Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants

  • New England Patriots vs New York Jets

  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns

I really hope they don’t put a team overseas.

If they do they need to do 4 to form an own division, so 6 games become shorter to travel.

I can understand Mexico or Canada but not all the way in England. I wouldn’t even advocate for a team in Hawaii.

I agree. I would rather they brought NFL Europe back as a development league.

Some team is going to get screwed. I'm a little surprised that Godhell hasn't tried to force the Saints over there.:dunce:

This is just another example of the greed in the NFL who only care about the owners rather than caring about the players
