History hasn't been kind to 3 seeds in playoffs, but Saints looking to rewrite history
1 Attachment(s)
If you're a Saints fan and you believe history repeats itself, you may want to stop reading now.
But if you believe the Saints can buck the trend, keep going. For those of you old enough to remember watching those episodes of School House Rock on Saturday mornings, there was one called "3 is a Magic Number." It wasn't referring to the NFL playoff seeds though because No. 3 has been anything but magical since the NFL playoffs expanded to 12 teams back in 1990. History is not on the side of the No. 3 Saints, who host the No. 6 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in the wildcard round of the playoffs. Sunday's game is the first step on a four-step journey for the Saints in their quest to bring a Lombardi Trophy back to New Orleans in February. https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...ize=1200%2C994 Most 3 seeds never complete all four steps. In fact, since 1990, the Indianapolis Colts are the only 3 seed to ever win a Super Bowl. The Carolina Panthers, in the 2003 season, are the only NFC team to reach the Super Bowl as a 3 seed during that time. more on NOLA |

Ten years ago the Saints were the only team ever to lose the final three games of the season and win the Super Bowl.
