Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

As it relates to Brees, maybe people are forgetting this, but the Vikings’ defense is really good. Minnesota ranked seventh in DVOA this season. As such, Zimmer’s group used constant pressure to harass the 40-year-old Brees into a 208-passing-yards performance off 26 of 33 attempts. He threw for a touchdown, had an interception and a fumble, and again struggled to stretch the field vertically.

Re: Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

Brees is 40 years old and this year and is about to be 41.

His decline has been going on for a few years now but became mostly visible at the end of 2018 when his play went from an elite level to tanking down to the floor. Brees just lost us a playoff game with poor play. If it was Manning, Rodgers or even Brett Favre, this fan base would be yelling about them "choking". Brees gets a pass though and those guys don't.

No, I do not care that he got to pad his stats and look amazing against some ****ty teams at the end of the year in a 3 game stretch. The Colts and Panthers were trash defenses and we were able to move the ball down field on them. That Titans game would've had a different outcome if they catch the 2 dropped INTs in the first quarter from him throwing in double coverage down field.

The most frustrating thing though for me is watching Brees just check it down so much. In so many games this year, he wouldn't even go through reads down field, just check it down to Kamara and end up for a loss and now in a third and long situation. If you guys want another year of watching this and us having those games where we struggle to get anything going cause our offense can be shut down easily, then have fun. I want a future though and Brees is only going to continue to decline.

I say this about Brady, but it also rings true for Brees - these guys are selfish and need to hang it up. They're past 40, Brady has 6 rings, Brees has 1, they have all their stats and records; time to let some young guy come in and have a chance. We went 5-0 with Bridgewater and the entire team looked like they had a bright future. The Pats on the other hand, had a possible future with Jimmy G, but ended up trading him. Brady should've retired at the end of last year when it became apparent he was declining. I hope Brees hangs it up before the season starts.

His decision making irks me. Like Cha Ching said, the titans dropped 2 picks when he made questionable decisions. The panthers also dropped 2 picks, one on an underthrow to Ginn and another on a sideline Route that Mike Thomas managed to swat away as the DB caught it.

It always happens in playoff time, we can look like world beaters all regular season, but for Brees to come out and play like that, at home, in the playoffs is ridiculous. He wasnt helped by the play calling, I dont care for SP a lot of the time, having Murray sat on the bench whilst the Vikings blitzed every down was idiotic.

But back to Brees - his questionable decision making has ended 2 straight playoff trips.

2018 - obviously shouldn't have got to OT but we shouldn't have blown a 14 point lead to begin with.

3rd down and Dante Fowler is bearing down on him, Brees throws a wounded duck which gets picked at the Rams 40 yard line. Rams move 30 yards, kick a FG and win.

2019 - What was he thinking on that deep throw to Ginn? I wouldnt even trust Mike Thomas in that coverage, so why Ginn?
And on the go ahead drive, huge fumble which kills all of our momentum. The first time I've ever wanted them to keep Taysom in over Brees, Hill was the only reason we were still in that game. Brees got greedy and it backfired.

Brees can extend his career around Taysom in a semi Wildcat type Offense.
Got to remember Drew has to be the smartest motivating QB to ever play in the league.
We saw how Defenses go haywire when Taysom is on the field.
If SP is smart and Drew plans to stay the two of them could draw up plays
that could wreak havoc on the DC's.

Brees is declining, but if we don’t address our guard situation we’re going to be in deep sh** regardless of who plays

Re: Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

Brees and the saints offense as a whole has been awful in the playoffs. For 3 straight years in the playoffs our offense has been the reason for us losing games. Even in the games we win it’s because of our defense... recall the game against the eagles where Brees and co looked like crap but our D bailed him out? How about the game against the Rams, our D held all game but once again Brees and co couldn’t score points.

Any articles or posters defending Brees are doing it as fans of Brees not the saints. There is no question he should retire, but he won’t.

Warford is good, Peat is the worst starter in the league. When Easton played in place of Peat our guards were fine. The answer is already on the roster, just get rid of Peat.

Its mind blowing to think that some posters want Peat to remain on this team.

That's a fact.

Did you notice that when Peat left the game to injury, who Sean inserted in his spot? It damn sure wasn't Easton. He has "his" guys. I'm telling you, Sean Payton is one hard headed stubborn SOB.

Loyalty is getting us beat man.

It's getting frustrating.

That's why the Patriots won so many recent SB's, if Belichek saw a weakness, he didnt hesitate to replace the player / coach. Didnt matter who it was.

Ya'll need to rethink this when Brees leads the league again next year. Brees is not the problem! He is still one of the best and ya'll want to get rid of him? I'm glad that I don't work for ya'll!

Brees is one of the best that ever QB'd in the NFL, no doubt. But you gotta
protect him with players that can block. Also I still believe with Taysom on the
field you can confuse some of the better Defenses. Don't leave a 40yr old
QB back there like a sitting duck.

Re: Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

No one is saying Drew is washed up. I'm just saying neither he or Payton know how to win in the playoffs. After all they did defy all the predictions of them for the playoffs by loosing to a10-6 team at home. They should be playing this Sunday but...well you know disappointing once again.

Re: Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

Drew isn’t done.
He is still the most accurate qb and reads defenses to a T.
He can’t thro w 50 yards anymore unless someone has blown coverage.

Brees needs more options, a less cute Payton play calling and an o-line or game adjustments.

The Saints won with Teddy because everyone down to a man took on a huge sense of urgency, which dropped the minute they saw Drew was back to his old ways.

It did help that he was fresh at the end of the year.

The sky is not falling

Brees is the best QB when only throwing 20 yds or less... after that he is average to bad.

If the team plays better without Drew, like you said, why would they want to keep him?

Re: Drew Brees isn't washed, so stop it

Not having Drew forced Payton to re-evaluate the offense, which turned into a 5-0 run without Brees.

Soon as Brees came back, Payton went back to his old ways. Took the ball out of the North-South punishing runner and put it in Brees-Kamara's hands because he wanted the O to look flashy, instead of just being productive.
