USA Today/Saints Wire: 5 pending free agents the Saints should let walk in 2020 offseason

Letting Onyemata and Klein go would be terrible mistakes; Klein I'd restructure, but he's still playing great football; Onyemata is available and actually graded better than Rankins...

Not sure what Sigler is thinking there...

I'm on the fence with Klein. Collectively, we're too slow as a unit. Saints must get faster at linebacker. Outside of Demario, we have no other assassins. Did you see how the Niners LB (s) shut that nonsense down on those edges? Dalvin Cook had no where to run.

Peat, Ginn Jr., Carr ...

Bye.

I forgot Carr was on the roster. That tells me letting him walk is a no brainer.

I’m agree about Klein and Onyemata. We have too many health issues at LB to let Klein go. I have zero faith that Anzalone can stay healthy a full season. We were near elite early in the year when we had enough healthy personnel to rotate players like Onyemata.
I feel a breakout year for him next year.

We really got screwed royally by injuries this year.

Peat, Ginn, and Carr can try and avoid the door on the way out.

We did however what happened to the Niners? 49ers have 16 guys on IR, two more than us & yet they are playing for a trip to the SB on next Sunday.

Key of the game is having solid depth. Saints need to drop the dead weight and add guys that can play at a high level when injuries start to mount.

Fair, but they weren't missing guys in the same places we were, same skill strategic places we did...

But, irregardless, remaining guys have to overcome them; am a little p/o'd though they took a key guy (Cook) out of the game but their guys got a pass...

Falling back to being soft? again?

San Fran had only 5 starters from last year to this season. They were 4-12 this time last year and 0-8 on the road.
At the start of 2019, we were saying that we just needed to be "middle of the road" on D. Well we finished #11 on defense and the offense craps the bed. I guess next season we'll need to finish top 5 on D to get it done.

I've run out of excuses for the Saints not being able to close.

At the end of the day, this guy doesn't know more about cuts than you or me. Lose Carr and Ginn? That's not exactly cutting edge Pulitzer worthy insight.
The FO will see what the market is and go from there.
David O seems like a priority, and I'd take Peat and Klein at a reasonable rate. We'll probably lose Teddy, and if someone throws 7-8 million at Peat the we might get that elusive comp pick.

no reason for the defense not to finish top 5 IMO.

talent is there, but it seems Dennis Allen has a habit of having a defense that goes to sleep at times.

Just to make a point, in 3 playoff losses over last 3 years, we have allowed average to below average offenses score well above what they normally do.

Vikings scoring 26 should never happen, 49ers kept them at 10.

Rams scored 26, Patriots kept them to 3 in the SB, Rams offense went bad after Chicago, they havent been much better off this year hence why they missed the playoffs.

Vikings in 2017 scored 25+ (was it 29?) Eagles the next week kept them I think to 7.

bottom line is, we dont have a defense in the playoffs and its concerning.

At some point I think we need to start a new linebacker thread. Klein playing great? IDK JP ... in coverage he's been smoked quite a few times this season.

3 years, 3 different levels of disappointment. IMO it's time to change up the strategy when looking at linebackers.

The Saints consistently (as a unit) have had some of the slowest LB units in the league for years. In my mind Demario is the only guy that can routinely make plays from sideline to sideline. The Titans, Chiefs and Niners have DTs that can run down the line and force RB's out on edge (Davenport was sorely missed) plays quicker than some of our LB's do.

Klein is a very intelligent LB however all of the smarts in the world can't help you if you are in 1 on 1 situations on the edge against guys like Dalvin Cook once they get to the edge and turn the corner if you are a 4.75 guy. A simple 3 yarder turns in to 8,9 or a 1st down:evil:.

Gotta get another sideline to sideline assassin & better upgrade the back ups.

I have the exact opposite point of view.

Our offense takes a dump in the playoffs consistently. Our defense has held every one of the teams you mentioned to their average or below their average scores for the season. Our offense can’t score more than 25 points in the playoffs and fails to give the D a break at all.

What do you expect when the offense is turning the ball over and getting constant 3 and outs? When you lose the time of possession it wears a D down, and we usually breakdown in the 4th qtr.

For years we wanted just an average defense, now apparently we need the #1 D in the league to win a playoff game... lol

You or Sean Payton?

Right Now you have 10Xs the credibility by our social interaction in this community and we've never met face-to-face...

It's a shame the only person who'll call out coach on his flaws/game planning is the butcher at Whole Foods .

Bye Peat. Thanks for the snow angels while you were on the ground. Klein is a good rotational backup player. Onyemata deserves to stay and get better here in New Orleans. Carr? Who? Never saw him do anything either. Bye.

Back in the Haslett Days we had the NOLA track team at LB, everybody was super fast but couldn't play for ****.

Why does this sound like a drive-thru order?

Anzalone has good speed as well, but has been injured far too often.

If he had been available to pair with Davis for the season - the LBs would have probably been the strenght of the defense.

Hopefully he has now suffered all his serious injuries he is going to have during his career.

Any names peak your interest at Guard/WR?

I'd hope we can retain Jenkins @ CB. He was very good in the wildcard game and frustrated a talented WR all game.
