The Eli Apple Challenge

For the last couple weeks I have read multiple times how good Eli Apple was the first half of the season.

I didn't see it, I cant find it, could someone please quantify that statement? I would like to understand it.

I know when and what his injury was, also hoe he played after. Its the magical period before that I need help with.

In my mind, he played solidly leading up to the injury. Not what I was reading but I distinctly remember thinking he had upped his game this season; and I cringed that night he was injured. Post injury he seemed to play a lot worse. Just my observation, can't think of anything specific, and I may be wrong.

I didn't scream and yell at my TV before he went down like I did after he returned from injury.

He was also going against some of the best receivers in the league early on. I’m all about keeping Apple.

Start with checking pre-judgements at the door, sit down and enjoy some Saints football starting with Week 1 vs Houston...

Watch only the player week to week - then you'll see why he was grading well up until he was injured vs Chicago...

Make notes; mark targets, completions, ReYds Allowed, Turnovers - make a journal; if you do, you'll be surprised at his early production...

I asked for anyone to quantify their assessment, not for a guide to scouting. On that note, if that's the only way to quantify that, and I know that You've made the statement before, please publish your volumes of work on Eli Apple.

He was quietly putting together a good season. Was definately passing the eyeball test before getting hurt. Alot of players are able to do their job but don't get looked at the way better players are talked about. Stats can be very misleading like qb.'s padding it up during garbage time or even int's when teams are so far behind trying to make some desperate plays.

Apple was a mistake. I feel fans on here look at him and Marcus Williams with rose tinted glasses.

He was ranked in the top 3 all year on drawing pass interference penalties. This is a big issue for us, as we seem to never be able to field a defense that can't help themselves from making boneheaded mistakes resulting in penalties like that.

Apple has a few good games, but it's never in consistency. Good one week, bad the next. When he's not getting burned badly by a quick catching WR, he's drawing blatant pass interference penalties.
