Pierre Thomas was one of the best.

How do you know any of them were bottom of the rung out of the 90 man roster? That's all that's being eliminated and that cut isn't even taking place until August.

Go back and read the discussions and press...

Strief, by his own admission stated he was ready to quit, that he didn't belong; ask him the next time to go by his brewery and grille, he'll tell you...

Oh, I would believe that's what he thought. But, discussions and press cannot be in the minds of those that actually make decisions. That's why I note what I have heard from GM's and coaches about the early roster decision making. I don't doubt Strief was outside the original 53. Possibly outside of the eight (at that time) practice squad list. But he was likely inside the 75 early on. I can't imagine he would be 81-90 as a draft pick.

That's who we are talking about. Those last ten that are only there to take snaps. While those players you mentioned, including Pierre Thomas, may not have been in the 53 originally, they surely weren't in the bottom of the barrel dredges (81-90) when camp began. Any player drafted (Strief, Colston, etc.) was going to clear that cut to 75.

AG, 2007 the Saints drafted RB Antonio Pittman, Ohio State in R4, Pick 107; and signed UDFA Pierre Thomas - you just made my case, Brother...

Pittman was cut on my birthday, September 1, 2007, to make room for Pierre Thomas. In 2007 the roster was cut to 53 on August 28. Pittman made the initial 53 but was cut a few days later to make room for Thomas who made the cut to 75. Neither were in that 81-90 range.

You just made my case, Brother.

You just argued that draft picks were making the roster, and I pointed out to you where Pittman was gone and P.T. was kept as the season got underway, you made my argument...

That's the importance of training camp, preseason games, as guys are giving opportunities some rise and some fall...

Thomas was considered a camp body, and as TC and PreSeason wore on, it was apparent who was the better RB...

If any team has shown you don't idly discount anyone on the roster, it's the New Orleans Saints...
