Michael Thomas cites new Tony Romo deal in opposition to CBA
The decision by CBS to get Tony Romo under contract in advance of CBS getting the NFL under contract could make it just a little harder for the NFL to get any network under contract.
Responding to the news of Romo making $17 million per year to serve as a game analyst on TV (only $1 million less per year than he was making as a starting quarterback), Saints receiver Michael Thomas — the 2019 NFL offensive player of the year — cited the Romo contract as proof positive that players should be negative about the proposed labor deal. “[T]hat’s why we shouldn’t sign the new CBA agreement no way the announcer should be making more than 90% of the players,” Thomas tweeted Friday night, adding a #No for good measure. more here |

Mike, Mike, Mike... how does the old saying go? “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”

HOW ABOUT "No way an NFL "PLAYER" should make more in a week than the "Average" working fan makes in a year!"

AS MUCH AS HALF? HALF? WHAT A PATHETIC!! EXAMPLE!!! A TRUE SUCCESSFUL CEO / TEAM OWNER COULD PAY A COMPLETE NFL ROSTER. WHILST STILL HAVING BILLIONS IN THE BANK!!! The only thing the average working fan has in common with the "SUCCESSFUL CEO" is that average working fan probably busts his hump so his "SUCCESSFUL CEO" can enjoy his "SKY BOX" And you ask if "I CAN EVER BE SERIOUS???!!!"  NO!! DON'T TELL ME!!! NOW YOU'RE PLAYING DEVIL'S ADVOCATE!!!!  |

The Romo contract was pretty astonishing, but it was a perfect storm of Romo being so much better than any of the other NFL color guys, the only other great color guy Chucky is currently coaching the Raiders and a bidding war for his services developed. A lot more risk/money involved in the players turning down deals and potentially holding out.

It is fairly bad form to release someone else's compensation. Romo is employed by CBS not the NFL and has zero cap or CBA.
Its really no ones business what he makes. |

This is why I always said to not worry so much about personality when it comes to these players, because if you knew them, you probably wouldn’t like them. Most of the forum disagrees with my stances and ideology, while cheering for players that would align themselves with me 7 days out of 7. Just assemble the right talent. **** personality. With that said, he’s right. Shout out to my boy Mike!

There is plenty of room for everyone to make money in and around the NFL enterprise. With his ability to predict and explain plays Romo is arguably the best. Guys like Joe Buck and even Troy Aikman don't come close. IMO, Romo makes the game more watchable. Besides that, he's in demand (just like MT) and so CBS paid for his services. This is big for a network that shells out a billion in programming rights. Could you imagine what Monday Night Football would pay not to have Booger and Tesitore limp across 4 hours of live football anymore? When MT tweets this out he only sounds immature and jealous. |

Re: Michael Thomas cites new Tony Romo deal in opposition to CBA
I just heard that Nick Solder, an NFL team rep, asked fifteen players on his team's roster if they would be willing to play a 17th game in exchange for the added benefits and pay provided for in the proposed CBA and they all said that they would. This is pretty much the vibe I'm getting from around the league. The vocal minority that are speaking in opposition are just that ... a minority. Solder said that while the deal isn't perfect it is much better than what they had and there is no guarantee that if the deal was rejected that another would be any better and it could very possibly be worse.

Re: Michael Thomas cites new Tony Romo deal in opposition to CBA
I also read that Michael Thomas admittedly had not kept up with any of the negotiations the PA and the league have been having over the past ten months and his comments, and those of other players who have not been involved, are making those players that have been involved even more determined to get the deal approved.
