I guess there will always be differing opinions on a signing, but remember, he's not coming in to be our #1. Just to be a guy to take some pressure off of Thomas.

For that purpose, this is a good signing.

The move is okay.

I don’t see the difference between Ginn and Sanders. They both have similar skill sets that we couldn’t leverage very well for the last 2 years. However, if we see Hill get more passing snaps Sanders could have more success than Ginn.

Would rather we get a big body target in the draft, but that can still happen, just not much upside with Sanders in this offense.

I don't believe the Saints org view (I'm responding to B&G post) this as just a lateral move. Sanders is definitely an upgrade, excellent route runner and the ability to make plays in the 4th quarter … in big moments. Ginn can't do that & often disappeared (1 catch in the post season) when MT was triple teamed.

I don't think the Niners reach the SB if they wouldn't have signed EM pre trade deadline. He was an added weapon they needed.

Brees now has another weapon he can trust to be there when the ball is delivered.

I imagine they will find someone in the draft to fill that role and he will be used mostly when Taysom is in. No use breaking the bank for a WR who will only be an actual target for only about 20% of the snaps (assuming that’s how they use Hill.)

Good signing. Still has ability. Productive on underneath and intermediate routes. Takes one of T. Hill's roles away where he can focus on being the #2 QB.

I don't want him to take away any of Hill's roles on offense. Why on earth would anyone want that? Take him off of special teams (even though he is extremely valuable there, too) if you want to take a role away.

He should be in there with Thomas, Sanders and Cook, who came on late. This offense needs him. He is NOT an NFL QB. This team needs to sign a backup, stop pretending Hill is ever going to start at QB, and try to draft Drew's heir apparent, whenever the opportunity presents itself.

we lost the Minnesota game with Drew seeing something long to end the half and laying it up for an easy INT.

Emmanuel Sanders' grandma sold WR on joining Saints

Weeks before NFL free agency begins, fans pepper big-name players on social media to join their team. The onslaught for some can be great, with fans from east to west on the request line.

For veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders, it was his grandmother who was in his ear early and often reciting one team specifically: The New Orleans Saints.

Sanders, who grew up in Belleville, Texas, signed with those Saints on Friday for two years, $16 million. He said Sunday on a conference call that his grandmother's endorsement played a role in getting him to New Orleans.


"One of the first people I called was my grandma, because she called me, her and my aunt were on the phone when free agency started, and she said, 'We're praying you go to New Orleans!' The Texans, they had an opportunity and needed a receiver, the Cowboys needed one, but my grandma was talking about New Orleans because she loves that team," Sanders said, via Katherine Terrell of The Athletic. "She loves Drew Brees, she loves Sean Payton, she loves the offense and she wanted to watch me play. When I called her and told her she was so excited about it ...

"Not only that, she's excited because literally they can drive to the game if they wanted. My family, I don't know how far of a distance it is, but I know last year when (the 49ers played the Saints in New Orleans) I had like 15 family members drive up, so it can't be that long of a drive. So that's pretty cool to be back down south and be close to my family as well."

The 33-year-old receiver is exactly the type of player who could transform the Saints' offense, which has been overly reliant on Michael Thomas the past several seasons. Sanders' ability to win with great route running, get open off the line of scrimmage, and corral catches in tight spaces, will give Drew Brees another reliable target.

For a Saints team that hasn't been able to find a consistent second-fiddle, Sanders should fill that void and then some.

Sanders, who has already been to a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers, winning once (SB 50), the chance to chase another Lombardi Trophy was an even bigger reason than his grandmother's suggestion.

"Ultimately, the goal is to try to bring a Super Bowl to New Orleans, and that's the reason I signed that deal. I know I've got a great chance of winning another Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints," he said.

If the receiver plays a big role in a Saints march to the Super Bowl, fans have Sanders' grandmother, in part, to thank.

Sanders is EXACTLY the type of receiver Drew and this offense needs at EXACTLY the right time.

I was beating the drum for Emmanuel Sanders last year for these simple reasons ...

He knows mesh concepts, triangle reads, the west coast offense. His familiarity with all of these things makes him another needed weapon. Still a Primetime player.

I don't think the Niners get to the SB if they didn't make the trade for him in 2019. He was a very important chess piece to their run.

Imagine what he'll do for 2020 in New Orleans with #9 as his QB?
