So this is indeed his last year as a Saint.

Good for him.

Can't wait for people looking at qb. in the 1st round now.

Sean Payton knew exactly what he was saying that this is Drew’s last season.

I can’t wait for him to get Collinsworth out of the booth.

I still don't like it. He is ours.

This would explain the interest in Jordan Love. I wouldn't be surprised if we traded up to take him now.

I can’t believe this wasn’t the first post on this thread. FINALLY I won’t have to listen to that douche nozzle Colinsworth. I would have been happy to have anyone, and I do mean ANYONE replace him. Now that it’s Drew even better.

Let me point out that Guido is going to say “the article says WHEN he retires, it could be 4 years from now.”

No dude, Brees is done.

Bittersweet news. I'm sure he will be a fantastic commentator and I look forward to that. But it's a stark reminder that a future without the greatest player to ever wear the black and gold (and the best QB to ever play the game if you ask me) is coming soon. I don't cry for much, but I'll probably be choked up when he makes it official. We've been blessed to have him all these years and it sure won't be the same without him.

Get ready for all the band wagoners and millennials to jump ship when we have a few seasons of mediocre QB play. Some people think the last 14 years is typical and within a matter of a year or two we will have another decade plus all pro QB.

I’m actually kind of looking forward to the meltdown. Saintsreport will be a ghost town.

A Mike Tirico-Drew Brees booth for Sunday Night Football is going to be fantastic.

Probably also means if there is no 2020 season Drew is done.

No. Didn't you read what Rapaport tweeted?

A key part of this: “In a contract that will begin after Brees retires from the Saints...” Drew Brees’ post-football career is mapped out

That could be two, three or more years from now. Otherwise the contract would have a fixed stating date. Nothing has changed.

Whenever that ride is over. Once again, nothing in the deal indicates his retiring after this coming season. It is based upon whenever he decides to retire. My bet is that ESPN wouldn't leave it open regarding starting year and NBC would.

ChrisXVI 04-11-2020 09:15 AM

Re: Drew Brees Signs with NBC Sports

It says Mike Tirico will take over for Al Michaels in 2023 and the implication is that they want Brees to spend a season calling Notre Dame games first. That sounds to me like maybe Brees could still play the 2021 season before the broadcasting plan has to start.

AG,

Regardless of when Brees retires, it's been a wonderful ride. No where in my post did I mention when he will exit left.

If you believe that he will play 2+ seasons, that's your prerogative.

Nothing against your post. I just piggybacked it to re-stress the point that the apparent deal with NBC has no specific starting date for those assuming it definitely means 2020 is absolutely Brees' last season.

What an upgrade of Collinsworth.

How strange is it that ESPN hasn't attracted big names for it's MNF show?

We used to get Al Michaels and John Madden. Now it's Booger and 30 penalty flags.

This is his last year. I really doubt he makes it through the whole season. His play may not have declined but his ability to stay healthy has.

???
He missed 5 games last year because of a freak accident caused by a POS left guard. His biggest problem is that his O line can't stay healthy.

Guess there's a slim chance Brees goes full Witten and works horribly as a commentator then unretires, right? :)

Lol

I really hope Drew does well because that was awful for Witten. The whole MNF crew has been garbage for the last several years, but oddly enough I still like them more than Troy and Buck.

I seriously doubt Brees will be doing games. How could he say something like Subway Halftime report when he owns all those Jimmy Johns. Not gonna happen. I'm thinking his own show or in a bunch of segments.

I am not reading anywhere that he is retiring after this year, only that he has a contract for after he retires.

On the choice.. espn are hacks, NBC also owns FPT.

SP's statement...contract for after football. Wall and writing?

You have to consider he is close, very close and quite possibly this year is it. I think there's a very good chance we are watching his final season. Hopefully that motivates those around him

I think Brees even said in the beginning he was coming back to take one more shot at the SB.
I agree that the writing is on the wall. It’s going to be hard for some people to accept but it will probably be time.

I see Brees' last year being the year after Brady retires. Can't see him retiring as long as he's playing well and his records are in reach of anyone. Maybe Mohmes, or someone else will break them in 20 years, but Brees isn't walking away for someone to break them the next year.

If Brees retires before Brady, that's going to suck.

I wonder how many nights Chris Collinsworth lay awake in bed wondering where he'd be when drew finally hangs up the cleats? The network seemed to scramble to let it be known that Collinsworth would be back making senseless comments.
