The New Orleans Saints moved up to the 74th pick from the Cleveland Browns giving up their third-round pick in 2020 (88th overall) and a third rounder in 2021 to tdraft Linebacker Zach Baun from the University of Wisconsin.

The more I think about this pick the more excited I become. IF Anzalone stays healthy this LB unit could be phenomenal.

The more I read and watch videos the more I like Baun. He dropped from a possible first rounder because of a diluted sample and we got another good one. Kind of like when Chauncey Gardner dropped to us last year because he didn't interview well.

If we can start the season relatively healthy then we'll be able to evaluate our LB'ers and find out how to best utilize him in our scheme. Hopefully, we've got everyone in camp so we can see what we've got at LB'er. I'm a little nervous without Nolan's insight but everyone else knows the system and hopefully he can work into the rotation quickly.

Was reading an article from PFF on Saints new draft selection Baun.

His initial step off the line. At the combine, his 1.54 10 second split was the tops among any edge defender that tested in Indy. Quite a few scouts had him projected to be gone no later than Day 2.

Can also drop into coverage (good grades there) and making plays in space. Nice hands, twitchy, solid speed and is cerebral (he was a QB in high school). I know some Saints fans would have preferred Queen or the kid from OU but I think Zach may have been another gift (see Chauncey G Johnson) in the middle rounds. Speed, athletic and explosive off the edge.

It will be interesting to see how his skill translates to the NFL.

IMO steal of the Saints 2020 draft.

Since we started investing in the O-line early and started winning again. That's when O-line became sexy. Winning is sexy and you win in the trenches.:cool:
