Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints traded yet again on Friday night, picking Dayton tight end Adam Trautman at No. 105.
The Minnesota Vikings originally had the No. 105 pick before the Saints traded with their wild-card foe from last season. With the trade, the Saints gave their fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh round picks to to Minnesota to draft the FCS tight end. https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...ze=1700%2C1136 Trautman had 70 catches for 916 yards with 14 touchdowns last season. ESPN's Louis Riddick said, "I'm shocked to see him still on the board," when the Saints picked him up. The Saints have drafted one Flyer before: tackle Tom Stangle in the fourth round in 1967. Trautman was the second third-round pick for the Saints on Friday, as the team selected Wisconsin linebacker Zack Baun with the No. 74 pick. NOLA |

Kid is really good. I can’t wait to see him, cook, MT and sanders on the field with AK going out of the backfield

This might be a good pick, Jimmy Graham 2.0, but kind of crushed we traded the rest of our draft. How did we come out of this draft without a WR? Ugh!!! We need to trade Warford or something and get back in and get a wideout!

Fine with trading late picks for what looks like a young Jason Whitten.
It’s not like our roster has enough holes that late rounders would make the team... |

For what it’s worth, all of the draft analysts seem to love the pick.

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
I was curious so i watched two highlights of this kid. One play stood out most and it's here at the 0:47 mark.
To me, this looks a lot like how Kittle moves and they way he's used in the SF Offense. Josh Hill can't move like this... While I don't expect NFL defenders to ricochet off him, I can absolutely see him dragging a couple tacklers for an extra 7 yards. Excited for this kid! |
Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
I was think grok actually
|
Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
If he can indeed be compared to Kittle or Gronk then we definitely got a steal.
Hopefully we can trade Warford for a couple of late picks just for the entertainment value. Better than cutting him outright, I guess, even if we get nothing out of the picks. |

Make sure you watch the interview posted above... it's about 19 minutes, very insightful.
This kid is going to be a stud. He is super smart in addition to football smarts. He used to play CB and QB. So he seems to truly understand the game if you listen to his interview. And he absolutely loves to block and get his opponents on their back. |

Trequan runs around like he has no clue where he is, then for one game a season has this lightbulb moment where he catches more than one pass. Coleman was UDFA and made little difference in the passing game, was primarily a blocker. Meach was decent, but that was back in 2007. I just get the feeling that Payton doesnt value that position early and seems to think it can be sorted via UDFA. Then there we are again, eliminated from the playoffs because no one outside of Thomas can get open. |

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
Think of the trade this way. We didn't have a 3rd. We traded our 5, 6 and 7 to move up into the 3rd to get a TE that may be an absolute Gronk like stud.
I'm not all that upset about losing a 5th, 6th and 7th rounder if you have a really deep roster to start with. If we were rebuilding I'd be a lot more pissed off. |

I like the pick but that is a lot to give up no matter how you look at it.

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
If things stand as they are, this is crazy.
Vikings have 13 draft picks remaing. Saints have 0. 🤨 |

Not really. With 13 picks, the Vikings can afford to take chances and be flat out wrong on 75% of their choices and nail the remaining 25%. I can see that being advantageous! |

Good deal.....I don't have to watch the draft anymore!

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
There are more than a few scouts believe that Adam was the 2nd best TE coming out of this draft class. The Saints were able to get him in the 3rd.
Forget the school he attended and trust the tape. It's not his fault he was bigger, stronger and more talented than everyone else in his league. Sean P has a vision for this kid in this offense. Potential dawg for years to come in New Orleans. |

The kid graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. An EI from UD ain't too shabby. I think he has it between the ears to pick up the offense quick. So, there is a decent chance he could contribute this year.

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
I hate that we traded all of our draft picks, but it was too big of a steal to pass up imo. I really hate that in a draft so WR deep, that we didn't get one though.

Re: Saints trade with Vikings, draft Dayton TE Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick
I keep re reading Adam's 3 cone drill (used to gauge quickness, agility & fluidity of movement) from the combine.
An official 6.78 … keep in mind he's a big guy @ 6'5 255. For comparison: Travis Kelce - 7.12 at his Pro Day (right around the same weight as Adam) George Kittle - 6.67 at his Pro Day Jimmy Dickens - 6.90 at the combine In my mind, this 3 cone drilled time is far more important (the ability to separate) that his straight line 40 time. His Senior Bowl practices were impressive too. Again, he was able to separate from the defender. I bet Sean Payton was rubbing his hands together like Birdman in hopes that he would draft that kid. |
