Ex-Saints player Delvin Breaux sounds off on relationship with Sean Payton: 'He didn't give me any respect

Ex-NFL cornerback Delvin Breaux said Thursday there’s “no bad blood” with the New Orleans Saints organization after a tumultuous two-year stint riddled with injuries but as far as his relationship with head coach Sean Payton at the time, it was filled with “hatred.”

Breaux, who returned to the CFL after previously leaving in 2015 to play two seasons with the Saints, opened up about his time in the NFL on the “Straight-Up Saints” podcast.

Delvin Breaux might need to focus on maturing and managing his expectations a little more than telling his story. A doctors misdiagnosis is very unfortunate but it happens every day and that is why second opinions are sought.. because they are after all only opinions.

A grown man with a family has a responsibility to look out for him self and his family. Trust your support.... but always verify.

Whilst you are correct and it is unfortunate, "if" what Delvin says is true, then Sean Payton should have sought a second opinion or atleast had some compassion towards someone who knows when something is physically wrong, the guy knows when he cant play - he came back from a broken neck.

Those same doctors misdiagnosed Jeremy Shockey's hernia in 08 and Keenan Lewis' injury (cant remember year).

The Saints 2012-2016 teams appeared to have been an absolute mess. Our medical staff was below inadequate.

Oschner Physicians/team doctors seemed to have done a lot of bad rather than good in New Orleans.

Just listening at Breaux's candid interview, it seems coach Payton was a bit unfair as well, even if he wasn't completely unaware of the "misdiagnosis" during that time.

Delvin was coming from 35', talented player getting a ton of DI offers breaks his neck, when some Dr's thought he should be dead ... much less having the ability to walk again. Amazing story.

Agreed with Diz here ... If DB said he he wasn't 100% to practice, surely he deserved the benefit of the doubt with his track history. Breaux even stated he practiced when he knew something wasn't right (was playing with a broken leg) yet coach didn't let up.

IDK, maybe Sean wasn't in the right place during that time but the work place bullying/hostility (questioning his toughness/arguments in treatment room) was a bit uncalled for in today's game.

With all the trade talk with Warford over the last few weeks, one would wonder if coach is using similar "tactics" (kind of called him out after drafting Ruiz) to motivate.

I'm hopeful this episode somewhat changes his perspective as it relates to injured players.

You may have misunderstood my comment. I am not relieving anyone in the Saints organization from the due diligence they should be performing in regards to their personnel, after all that's the teams investment. Those physicians should be liable for malpractice.

What I am saying is that as an adult, putting your health in the hands of someone that has 52 other people to tend to is never a wise choice especially when Delvin (who knows his body better than anyone else) knew something wasn't right. Delvin had the money and the time to get an outside opinion and should have. He wasn't 16, he was 25 years old at the youngest and a grown man.

Sean Payton, is neither the injured person nor the physician.. He has to rely on the professionals that the organization provides, he has no other choice.

Delvin was a great guy and player who tried to play through the pain and I believe that he got the shaft in New Orleans. Considering his injury history l always thought he was treated like a piece of meat and deserved better than what he got.

I am really ashamed to read that this has popped up again. But dang! He's pi$$ed and I wouldn't let it just die either.

Edit: As a younger man I sold medical equipment to Ochsner in New Orleans and it was a filthy hospital compared to the rest. I'm not surprised that they failed to do the right thing for their patients.

There have been numerous reports that the medical staff at the time was pretty incompetent. I don’t blame him.

Yep, this isn't the first player either. Payton has his favorites and Delvin just wasn't one of them...

Payton's ego will always be a priority or problem in the locker room here so long as he enjoys the tenure of the success of one Superbowl he brought New Orleans...

To me, he's proving to be a colossal disappointment having won only one Superbowl with the most prolific quarterback in NFL history...

Makes you also wonder if Eli Apple was getting the same treatment and should've been out after that Chicago game for a bit longer before being brought back...
