Pick Your Receivers From The Roster For Gameday

Who are your favorites to make the roster? Please explain why you like them from what you've seen. I don't know as much as ya'll so explain their pros and cons to get a clearer view.

Michaels Thomas-yes
Emmanuel Sanders-Yes
Tra'Quan Smith-Yes
Austin Carr- Yes
Juwan Johnson-Yes He looks like he's got the makings from what I've seen and heard
Krishawn Hogan-It's a good possibility depending on his growth
Lil' Jordan Humphry- Maybe If he takes the next step.
Marquez Callaway-Yes I am more familiar with him and he seems to have the athletic build, fights for the ball, and I liked his interviews.
Maurice Harris-Doubtful
Deonte Harris-Possibly playing WR too
Tommy Lee Lewis-Doubtful
Tim White- Doubtful

I think we went from 11-12 receivers when Carr signed on. This list doesn't include pass catchers out of the back field or tight ends. I picked 6 receivers even though we've gone with five before but I believe that we had better proven depth then.

I imagine that several practice squad players are cut and we keep a keen eye on the other teams roster cuts. We do fairly well at grabbing players off the waiver wire or cherry picking their Practice squads just before the end of the season and putting them on the final 53.

You missed the most important Saints off season WR acquisition ...

Emmanuel Sanders.

MT. Everyone is is expendable. Besides, Kamara is our #2 anyway so what are we talking about? The #3. Emanual then but don't expect much from him. Dude is like Waterford crystal at this point. Looks nice but extremely fragile and will break if you look at it funny.

MT, ES, Kamara, then all else is a guess. Would love to see Lil'Jordan come through. Lost faith in Austin Carr with his fragility. Maybe another FA Wr comes through.

He played in all 17 regular season games last season and started 16 of them ... all seven for Denver and nine of ten for the Niners. That's more regular season games played than any other player in the entire NFL. Plus he started THREE postseason games. That's 20 games played last season. He didn't break a single time.

Beast, according to Pro Football Reference, Sanders has missed a total of nine (9) games since regular play of 2012; now, of those nine, he missed four games apiece in 2018, 2017 seasons...

In 2017, he had a severe sprain in the mid-to-late part of the season, but he'd played 12 games...

In 2018, he'd played 12 games also before having an achilles tear in practice...

Although it's only one season, AG is correct, he played in 20 gms, no bye week due to trade, and through the SuperBowl...

Again, the way Payton devalues draft picks, have to wonder what Denver asked to for in compensation as he was the proverbial four-pt-swing late in the season in Saints vs 49ers fight for the NFC...

He didn't get injured last year but he hardly did anything. Think he had about 66 receptions RS. The schemes protected him. The previous two season he was injured frequently. Confident he will get beat out and put way down the depth chart.

Sanders killed us, Brother...

He was in Denver to start the year and was traded before they made the change to Lock; then he was with a new team mid-late season, so that should be factored...

Look, am willing to give him the benefit; you're right that he's had some late career injury history, but let's see this string out; besides, no one else has stepped up, so it is what it is...

Said it in another post, whatever got in Payton's craw, we shouldn't have let Willie Snead go till we knew we had his replacement...

Made the same mistake with several, including, but not limited to Akiem Hicks, Darren Sproles, Rob Ninkovich, among others...

And then there's the appearance of double standards re: injured players, some players seem to get a pass, some don't and are bitter about it...

I was watching a 2019 replay of the Niners vs Rams on Sat. EVERYTHING was still on the line for both teams .. Niners trying to secure home field and the Rams trying to keep their playoffs alive.

Game was tied I think @ 31 - 31 ... Niners driving and guess who broke the camel's back in that game on a 30+ yard bomb/completion? Emmanuel Sanders bailed out Jimmy G and subsequent game winner.

Just a week or two earlier, guess who destroyed the Saints secondary?

Sanders. He even threw a TD in that game to kill us .

C'mon Beast, this dude continues to be a game changer in meaningful games. He balls no matter the situation, scheme or team.

Well, the post read receivers, not specifically wide receivers, so with that in mind, and some others addressed it as well, I noticed in those posts there was no mention of Cook...

If Dan Campbell can get some work in with the rookie Adam Trautman, I wouldn't be surprised to see rookie used in the slot opposite Cookie, leaving @CantGuardMike to draw their best CB and a safety...

See a lot of seam routes and double post-ups coming this season; a guard isn't stopping a power forward in the paint...

And with our new offensive line, we likely won't need to keep a TE in to help block - so it's damn the torpedoes, expose those safeties and small CBs...

I'm really curious to see Adam Trautman as well.

I wonder if this spells the end for Josh Hill?

More than likely, the other TE, Garrett.

Everyone has their own opinions...

I just can't see anyone beating out Sanders for the #2WR spot. Sanders is not only a lock, but he should play well with Brees.

Really Beast, who do you think beats out Sanders? Smith? Carr lol?

We have Sanders and Thomas, everyone else is a practice squad WR on most teams.

I did not include the tight ends or running backs in the list. I mentioned that in the fine print. As for Sanders I wrote the wrong last name and have since fixed it. Thanks.

I don't know what to expect from Emmanuel Butler though.

He was a 2019 training camp beast. The likes of Bobby Hebert and Swilling were talking about him in high regard then an injury set him back ... faded.

Hopefully year #2 he shines.

Re: Pick Your Receivers From The Roster For Gameday

Thomas and Sanders are the only "locks" as far as I'm concerned.

Trequan Smith is shaky at best. Hadn't played well and this is year 3 in the Saints offensive system.

IMO Tommy Lee and Austin "one reception" Carr are wasted roster spots. Hell I would at least invite Dez Bryant to camp. He's a vet, experienced and proven.

Slow football day, so here were some "highlights" from ESanders playing on two different teams in 2019. He was big time, prime time.

Sidenote .. check out to toe drag and catch starting around 3:05 ... poetic. I'm glad grandma talked him in to signing w/NO.

Enjoy :bng:.

Re: Pick Your Receivers From The Roster For Gameday

Despite his slow development, TE Garrett Griffin, was showing promise till an ankle injury landed him on Injured Reserve last season; his big limitation is his size as he's only listed at 240 lbs.

Now for those unaware, he's also a Long Snapper specialists; so given his size and that extra skill, figure Payton's kept him around and has a vision for him as an TE/H-Back player(Dallas Clark-type receiver)...

And that explains the mystery why his jersey no is still in the 40s...

Also curios to see if Emmanuel Butler has shown the ability to learn the offense and if he can contribute in kick coverage to increase his overall value; with Kirkland gone, he has an opportunity...

With that, I'd consider locks at Wide Receiver to be Thomas, Sanders, and Harris; In the jobs to lose category, Tre'Quan Smith has got to show he's healthy, stronger, and has course-corrected his career...

Beat reporters have indicated via Twitter and their columns there's team buzz, or Payton likes, Maurice Harris and Krishawn Hogan...

Now, I mentioned Griffin earlier in his TE/H-Back/Dallas Clark-type role because unless WR5 or WR6 shows impact ability in the kicking game, we may only carry 4-5 WRs and have 4 TEs...

The three TE locks are Jared Cook, Josh Hill, and Adam Trautman; Payton's wanting Griffin to make this roster, so Griffin stays available/healthy and shows playmaking, he's the fourth TE on the roster...

I remember Payton saying that his preseason injury set him back and he was having a tough time grasping some things. This shortened offseason may hurt his chances. Sounded to me like he’s a talented guy who just can’t seem to know where he is supposed to be on a lot of plays.

Might as well lump Southlake (Jordan Humphrey) in that crowd as well. Remember when 2 glove Teddy had to line him up correctly TWICE pre snap in the Seattle game? He was just as lost.

I just sometimes wonder if we are really coaching/developing these kids up on the practice squad or simply trying to keep them off other NFL rosters.
