Mercedes-Benz picked Atlanta, but the Superdome is the real winning venue

The shortcomings of Atlanta are too numerous to fully inventory here.

The traffic is stifling. The food is bland. And their football team blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl.

But the grandees at Mercedes-Benz have decided they prefer Atlanta’s modern-as-tomorrow football stadium over our historic Superdome. So they will be scratching their name off the dome’s roof when the automaker’s marketing agreement expires next year.

Mercedes makes a fine car, but when it comes to picking a football stadium, they are out of their league.

The Superdome has hosted seven Super Bowls, the Rolling Stones and Pope John Paul II. Under its 10-acre roof, Tulane played an undefeated season, Michael Jordan won a national championship for North Carolina, George Bush said “no new taxes” and Roberto Duran said “no mas.”

Not mentioned in most of these articles is the fact that Mercedes recently completed building its U.S. headquarters in Atlanta. And they are a European brand who also like soccer, which this stadium also delivers. Although, what I've read is the Superdome actually gets 7x the exposure, so maybe they did make a bad business decision.

More #BigMo in the ATL than in the 504, so that makes sense since there are more potential customers in that market...

And sadly, the New Orleans has been a #clusterfocke with one bad, corrupt, and or incompetent mayor/city council after another...

Two years post-Katrina things were looking up, but, alas, with all the thugs and street violence back, we can't have nice things...

If I recall correctly the man who brokered the deal for Mercedes was fired immediately after.

I never cared for the Mercedes branding of the Super Dome.

I found it cheesy and like New Orleans decided to wear a hood ornament on a gold chain.

I'm sure there are many National Corporate Sponsors out there that a deal can be made with. But really as St Thomas said not a porn site we get enough negative press as it is.

To Railboss's point.. Why run from what you are? Embrace it. New Orleans is closer to PornHub than the Vatican and it is working very well for Las Vegas.

Love the team, love the city, never saw it as a good match for the brand.

Tom Benson brokered that deal and he is gone but more importantly, what they were offered to move to Atlanta must have been very lucrative as Mercedes-Benz just game up the 2024 Superbowl location... I suspect you only do that if you are promised the 2025, 2026 venue will be Atlanta.

On any account the article is low IQ, stop playing the victim and acting like Atlanta.

Unfortunately I am in living in Atlanta.

Yes the clientele for their cars is larger here than New Orleans, however that has nothing to do with marketing in the general sense.

MB has a huge corporate campus here in Atlanta, I drive by it(or I did before Corona made mandatory a work from home situation) and that is the biggest reason. They get tickets and box access for the naming rights and the VP, Directors and C level folks that live here want to be able to go to a game more easily.

New Orleans has been better than Atlanta and played in more big games on National Television, so it is a much better building to have your name on if you are looking at two similar locations from a marketing standpoint.

The fact is they are not similar cities, MB corporate campus in Atlanta far outweighs anything else for them. They may also think that with Brees retiring soon the Sants may not be in nearly as many National TV games, but who knows.

On a side note, whether their name was on the Superdome or not I have never held any affinity for MB vehicles. It is even less so now.

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

I’ve only got in one MB, thought the seats were flat and hard drove stiff, but every time I see a gorgeous blondee in the drivers seat I always think what money paid for it . Maybe if I wasn’t slamming coors lites so much I might of invented the weed eater and could own one myself[emoji481]
