RE: 2005 Saints
My impressions? Well, I expected the worst after listening to the game on 870AM. But after seeing the re-broadcast, the first string looked surpisingly good vs. the Sea-Chickens in the opener. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Remember that Seattle is a good team, playoffs last year, with an O-Line rated among best in the league. They positively manhandled us last year, but not this year - at least not when our 1st string was in.
MacPherson will be star. Bouman shouldn't be on the team. We need a backup OT badly. We need Allen back in at OLB. Give Fincher a shot at MLB. That CB Williams might well be a beast, very impressive. Jason Craft is slipping.... |
I certainly don't know all there is about the Saints. It seems the QB situation is perplexing to many fans.
It's common knowledge that Brooks may not take us to the promised land. He has been healthy. He's not Hall of Fame material. But he's ours. All we can do, at this point, is hope for the best. He very well may be our starter for a year or two. If Brooks goes down, Bouman is the back-up. I really don't know that much about him but he has experience. He has experience with Haz and the whole scheme of things. Many think we should cut Bouman and go with Kingsbury/A-Mac. I'm just not there yet. Bouman could very well be cut tommorrow, but I think we need to keep him around - through this season. I read somewhere that we are gonna keep 3 QB's. Can we keep four through the season? Just to see? Perhaps those of you familiar with rosters, caps and such can explain to me the situation in that regard. 8) |

.. the one thing I'll say, experience or not, Bouman has got to go, unless they are planning on keeping 4 qb's. Both kliff and Adrian are young players who have a lot of potential... I don't want to see either go somewhere else...

I've never been much of a Brooks supporter in the past. But I'll tell ya, I was impressed with his play in the opener. I'm beginning to think that the wristband might finally bring out some of this guy's potential. Regardless, I think he'll be cut after two years, after which A-Mac will take over and Brooks will head for free agency. The Saints could be a viable sleeper this year, less because of Brooks, but more because the defense appears improved. C'mon - four out of five stops, against Seattle? That's not the Saints D of last year, not by a long shot. They've definitely improved, the question is how much. All in all, I'm more hopeful than I've been in a long time after watching that re-broadcast. |

RE: 2005 Saints
You're right, they seem better on D. I don't know about top half of the league yet, but better is a good sign. Seattle does have a decent offense so it's good to perform well against them even it is just 1 game of preseason.
A negative, though... I'd have liked them to make it a bit harder on the s'hawks to score after Deuce's fumble. 2 plays, 18 yards and a TD is not getting it done or bailing out the offense after a mistake. Holding them to a FG was key and they didn't do it. |
