Goodell sends letter to NFL fans explaining plans for season
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has sent a letter to fans outlining the league's plans to play during the coronavirus pandemic.
As veterans begin reporting to training camps this week, Goodell noted Monday how COVID-19 has “turned the world upside down.” “COVID-19 will continue to present a major challenge to nearly every area of American life. Football is no exception,” Goodell wrote. more here |

With multiple guys opting out to prioritise family safety (rightfully so), why is the NFL still pushing this?
These are unforeseen times, acting as if a global pandemic isn't happening right now is absurd. At least postpone the season now and potentially start late. |

I just think it's a little irresponsible for them to go ahead and start. I want to watch the Saints play, but not at the risk of them losing a family member over it. Especially, when from Rogers perspective, it looks entirely money driven. |

The Marlins team that has all of the personnel that are testing positive did everything wrong. Believe it or not they actually let players who were known to be positive attend and take part in the game and practice. As for family members, the players that do not opt out (not many so far) agree to isolate from any "at risk" family while basically living in shutdown mode for six months. As I pointed out earlier, their work environment will be safer than living a normal life without the season. |

Look at it this way, diz ... you and I likely have a far greater chance of contracting the virus going to Kroger or Rouse's than the team personnel have going to practices and games.

Something about RG rubs me the wrong way. He just reeks of garbage filled with loaded diapers for some reason. I'm not a clairvoyant but I really sense it.

Every day I read about more opt outs. Get people used to no football, starve the animals, fingers crossed.

So if a couple guys from your company don't want to go to work because the office is dealing with mold, you should be forced to stay home and lose your check?
That is what you are saying with "just postpone the season"... Contrary to popular misunderstanding only Drew Brees and Tom Brady are as wealthy as Drew Brees and Tom Brady, the rest of the league needs game checks to feed their family. This is like me watching teachers cry and whine on social media about children going back to school... Teachers have job security, the single mother with a 3rd and 7th grader needs those kids in school so she can go to work and feed them. For centuries generations have endured famine, recession, pandemic, earth quakes, deadly storms.. now we just phucking stay home and hide in closets because things get a little difficult or different... |

The "opt out" tracker shows 23 players have opted out thus far. All but a few had no shot of making the final roster anyway. Almost all had some underlying condition or someone from the immediate family does. There were 2,880 players on rosters when the opt out was offered. Cut off date to declare is August 4th. We'll see in five days or so how much of an impact there will be. But, of course, you ALWAYS look for the worst, expect the worst, and even more disturbing ... hope for the worst. What a sad, sad existence. :( |
