If he tore his knee up last year, not sure no surgery will have sufficed.

There are varying grades of tears, Smash. A grade three (completely torn in half) is the most severe and always requires surgery. A grade two tear (stretched and partially torn) may or may not require surgery, but would most likely prohibit playing on it. A grade one tear is when the ligament is stretched with minimal tearing. While it can still be painful, it still provides enough stability to use and will usually fully heal without surgery. Since Kamara was playing with the injury it pretty much had to have been a grade one injury.
