New Orleans Saints: Analyzing the team’s debilitating pass-coverage woes

Heading into the season, the Saints were expected to have a well-rounded coverage unit. So far, they’ve been one of the least productive units in the NFL.

The Saints always knew they were going to field a talented offense this season, and so far, that has turned out to be the case.

Although they rank just 13th in yards/play, their offense has scored 27+ points in their last four games, which is impressive given the injuries they’ve dealt with at the receiver position, especially to Michael Thomas.

Unfortunately, the defense has not held its end of the bargain, and that explains why New Orleans possesses a very modest +6 point differential. After six games, they rank 24th in points allowed/game (29), and since the offense is giving the ball away less than one time per game, that’s all on the defense.

What has gone wrong for a unit that yielded such high expectations coming into the season? Can they rebound? Let us take a closer look!

Do you pay up for Lattimore next year?

Hell no. Try to trade him for some value. Draft a new person.
Lattimore is such an enigma, all world talent IMO that just doesn't want it and gets lazy.

I think it would be wise to pay the 5th year option on Lattimore, and let him test free agency in 2022. For 2020 it is pretty much make do the best you can, start rebuilding the secondary for 2021 going with new safeties first.

I saw a defense scheme vs the Chargers that had Marcus Williams matched up against Keenan Allen...at that point I new 100% DA dpesnt know his personnel well. There isn't ONE safety I trust checking Keenan Allen 1vs1 in Man coverage. DA has to know his players strengths and weaknesses and play towards their strengths instead of forcing something that isn't there. Trey Hendrickson on the goal line dropping into coverage. DA is a MAJOR reason for the regression

I don't know about that. I'm truly suffering watching him play even worse this year. With another year of Williams missing tackles then I think my liver will have had too much and go out on me.
