If Brees has to miss time, Winston is the logical starter @ QB going forward.

Agreed, Brees has played through a ton, so if he said he can't go back in then something is wrong.

I had a feeling we show some warts coming off a near-perfect game vs the Bucs. The 49ers did a good job of turning it into a physical hard-fought game. I don't remember when we had this good of run defense + pass rush since the Dome Patrol days. That + the playmaking of Kamara is the calling card of our team.

Remember 2 Gloves Teddy didn't look good coming in relief of Brees vs Rams either.

It will take time for Jameis to develop chemistry with receivers assuming Brees is out for an extended time.

That's fair. But Jameis has a history of some pretty awful habits. His arm strength really stood out live, but damn, that boy just can't process...

And in fairness to Taysom, he's had no PreSeason this year, and really hasn't had the chance to step up and get a volume of reps as well...

After all, it's been five, six years since he has...

He has to have the time to actually prepare with the 1st stringers as the Saints starting QB.

And also...

This is troubling. These post-game comments Brees is making sounds like he knows his body has broken down.

Payton said that it’s Brees’ back that’s troubling him.
Time to get some cortisone shots.

That said, I have yet to meet anyone that used to have back pain.

Taysom never did it. He was never a good QB.

Believe Taysom is pretty much at his apex in his nfl career. Pretty dang solid where his and what he is currently producing, but not sure we can expect him to evolve in to the next “guy”.

We saw the future today at Saints QB post Brees with current in house talent ... I see athletic ability but not the ability to process the offense in anywhere near time required before defense closes down. A couple throws that Winston threw where horrible worst part is there was not a receiver in sight or if there was he had triple coverage aka Thomas. Pray Brees returns and we make serious search this off-season for the next Saints QB.

Taysom needs to stick to running back halfback, fullback, Tight End and slot Receiver. There is no run pass option when he is behind center, he has completed 2 passes in 2 years... sheez

The guy is just not smart fellas. He's not a high IQ guy. He's kind of....an idiot. Lol. Teddy was smart. Had his **** together. Wish we had him back.

After Winston went in by the look on Hills face it was obvious he was convinced that he was the one about to go in for Brees.

I think Winston will be ok after a week of work with the ones. He did scare me when we were down there by the end zone with two sets of downs. At least he took the sacks. Old Winston would have turned it over.

I hope your right but SP will need to install a far less layered offense ... today game plan was a SP/DB offense .. neither one of our backup QB’s found their first second or third read ... JW once.

I never understood yours and a only a couple of others motivation, obviously not a motivation for Saints to win, to play Crab Legs, but unfortunately you got your wish yesterday, and possibly in the future.

All this talk of Taysom and Brees...

What about our Offensive Line? We have issues there that have caused some of the present woes.

Very true...the line isn't protecting. There was no protection on the play that Brees got smacked on

Neither Taysom or Winston are the answer though...keeping the old topic going

I agree. It will be a much more traditional offense for Winston to try to excel in.

Give him less decisions to make and there is less opportunity for the decision he does make to be a bad one

One could point the finger at the Offensive line when it comes to our woes in the preseason. They usually start strong but when Armstead inevitably gets injured the rest start falling like dominoes.

That first drive he had where he got us in the red zone you could tell he wanted to force it but he took back to back sacks. Old Winston would have thrown it for a pick. Hopefully it’s a sign of improvement when it comes to decision making.

Are you picking on "Popeyes Sammich" Andrus Peat again? :bng:

Re: Saints vs 49ers Game Day Thread

Ruiz has been the weak link in our Oline ... his play has our starting QB on the sideline for a while looks like. Was Easton already playing for an injured Peat?Because we had Ruiz in at RTG. Our line plays better with Peat and Easton
at Guard position ... right now the game appears too fast Ruiz ... missed a lot of training camp.

Ruiz is a center and needs to be playing center. He was a three year starter there in college.

Square peg, round hole.

Payton drafts two centers in 2 years and expects it to work instantly.

I really think he was hoping to move McCoy to guard, but reduced off-season foiled those plans.

Have to know when to change the protection calls to play center. Maybe Ruiz is struggling with that as a rookie.

He needs a year in the weight room. He can learn the playbook at the same time. I expect good things from him but he's still just a 21 year old boy.

Also, I like that Sean drafted two centers with our first pick two years in a row. Not every guard can play center and Payton values players who are versatile. I realize that McCoy wasn't getting the calls right last year and we needed a smart center. We got him. Now we just have to season him a little bit.

That was his strength at Michigan. His coach said he was right on 99% of the defensive calls he made from center in his three years there. Although, the pro game is a step up and may take a bit to get up to speed.

That was the main concern with McCoy. At guard he'd be able to let his athleticism take over.

It may happen with new QB . If they simplify the offense for Winston or Hill .

If they simplify the offense it will make the offense worse. As it stands we may not win another game until Brees returns. Some have looking forward to life without Brees. I'm afraid they are going to find out.

In a short week for Kwon Alexander, he was great on yesterday. Flying around out there making plays .. specifically in the screen game. He pops out in this area. Really impressive LB.

Anzalone is all but gone.

Look at the impact he had on Demario Davis. He had one of his best games because of Kwon’s impact.
